  • 8/30/11- Business AND Pleasure in Cleveland this weekend

    August 30th, 2011

I will be leaving for Cleveland on Thursday as I have some business to tend to there. It is a rather large amount of business in that it will weigh in right around 260 pounds on Thursday night, give or take a couple pounds, and it will be better conditioned than ever before.

Though it is billed as business as far as the IRS is concerned, it will be pleasure in the sense that it is going to be a lot of fun watching it all unfold. I make no predictions as this will be his first stab at one of the top 3 national shows. What I CAN tell you, matter-of-factly, is that he will step on stage 30 pounds heavier than he did last year. I'd say that is a success in and of itself but ... I am a tad bias, too, because he is a TEAM SKIP client.

With all of the douches that I routinely run into in this sport (and likely will run into while in Cleveland), I find a glimmer of hope for the sport in guys like Ryan Fulton. Though he is fully committed to seeing how far he can take the sport of bodybuilding, he balances it quite well with his family and the rest of his life. You won't find him tooting his own horn, either, as he is very low profile and doesn't really care for the attention - hence, this is the first you have heard me mention his name over this last year. Why? He wanted it that way and I am used to working with people that want to keep their anonymity whether it be professional athletes or other trainers and prep guys to .... humble guys like Ryan that don't much care for the hoopla that usually accompanies this sport.

Thing is, he did manage to get noticed, anyway, as someone from Rx Muscle will be interviewing him Thursday night. Apparently, when you are good you don't need to toot your own horn for people to find out who you are.

So, as Ryan heads to Cleveland with his sights set on proving to be a future threat in this sport, he has it in perspective. He isn't one of the hundreds that will show up figuring it is only a couple days from him getting his pro card. Oh, he wants it and he trains for it and he diets for it but he understands that whether he gets a card in the future is out of his hands. What IS in his hands is how hard he can continue to work to take his physique to the next level. After all, not many people put on 30 pounds of muscle in a year. Clearly, there is a ton of potential there. How much? We are going to get an idea in a few days.

I will be sure to have pics and vids from this weekend when I get back. Stay tuned.

I can attest to everything Skip said about Ryan. I saw him walking around the county fair in running pants and a long sleeved shirt and it was around 85 degrees with high humidity! Good luck to him this weekend, cant wait to see pics!

                        Palumbo's assessment...
RYAN FULTON: gained 50lbs from last year. Should be about 15lbs lighter however…… freaky calves… thick pecs and delts.

He did dry out more before the load but we were still off for PJing. He was SICK full and we knew he needed to be in a class like this at a level like this.

We know what we need to work on now that Ryan has stood toe to toe with some of the best bodybuilders in the country. We have already started to put the off season plan in place to bring up his weak areas and I will need to push his conditioning further for the next show. Between solid improvements in chest and back/latt thickness and getting him harder and tighter, he will no doubt move up in placings considerably for the next show. If he can make the changes he did for this year, he can obviously make huge strides again this next year.

His back came up nicely from the pics I saw on RX. He has the size to compete for sure, I have no doubt he can come in at the same weight but significantly tighter at his next show and come in top 5. Great job Ryan and Skip!

Will be interesting to see the results next year. Would be cool if he'd film some of the training he mentioned for that video project.
PM me to discuss website/video/dvd etc. related work.
