  • Should he skipload?

Hey skip, my gym partner has been cutting for awhile now and lost around 15lbs and went from 15% to about 10%. He wants to get to around 6-7% but the problem is he has been doing static cals daily and reducing 250cals each week or so and I think his metabolism is in the tank. His maintenance is now around 1800 at 175lbs, so I advised him not to cut more calories and start incorporating skiploads to rev up his metabolism instead because if not he will be eating like 1200 calories to get to single digits.

So my question is: should he just jump right into a 6hr skipload and gradually increase every week or would he rebound and put on a bunch of fat from the spill over due to his damaged metabolism? Thanks!

While God knows I'm anything but an authority on dieting, I'd say try a 6-hour one. Even if it didn't help (which it most certainly will), he won't have lost any traction (fat-wise). And I am absolutely positive once he sees the benefits of a refeed/Skipload, he'll realize the error of his ways. Unless he's an idiot, of course.

If he is truly beat up and depleted then a 6 hour would probably be a good place to start even though I don't know all variables involved. The alternative is that he doesn't do a load and he ends up with a shitty metabolism, anyway.

Is one day a week enough to stimulate a crashed metabolism? Why not 4 hours and some extra Cals during the week? That a for Skip too.

If he's depleted and muscular like he should be, he will be able to down a TON of calories within his first 6 hour load. More than enough to stimulate his metabolism again. He just has to not be retarded and lower his calories too much.

He knows it works because I've been using it successfully, but his concern is a rebound. He's been on very low cals and a keto, so he is worried about the sudden introduction of massive carbs at once, so that's why we are asking if he needs to ease his way into it by eating a few 100-200g carb meals or something before doing a skipload or if he can just jump right into it. Thanks.

6 hours at his current state is easing into it. Start cramming those low-fat carbs.

Hey sorry I didn't want to start a new thread, but should water intake be high or low or doesn't matter during a skipload?

I believe in the Longevity DVD, Skip mentions to drink water, but to not drink so much water that it interferes and keeps you too full to put down the carbs during your Skipload portion of the day. Essentially you can make up for your water intake during your non-Skipload portion of the day.

update: friend did 2 skiploads now and looks much better without the scale moving I think he is recomping.

question: I did my skipload last night from 6pm to 2am, but I only managed to get in 800g carbs because I kept on falling asleep during my load. I woke up an hour ago (11am) and I am starving. Is this a sign that I did not load enough? Should I do another carb meal right now? I feel like I could have gotten around 1200 if I didn't keep falling asleep.

You probably could have loaded more, yes.

Brings up a question I have had in the back of my mind.... if one were to crash/sleep mid-load for.... lets say 1.5hrs, could or should time be added to the end of the load?
