  • Selling my bike and need to set a price

I am asking for some help, here, because I don't know what I am doing. lol

I will be selling my bike but there is no real rush so I figured I could sit on it until I get the best price. If it doesn't sell, oh well, but I would like to get rid of it.

    Here is some info:

2001 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R, IMMACULATELY maintained and not a scratch on it, black and yellow, Yosh pipe, geared 6 teeth high in the rear and 1 tooth down in front, integrated rear lights with no tail garbage (all that shit that hangs down from the tail), 19k miles (80% highway), new front and rear tires, competition chain. Will throw in $500 Shoe Helmet with Troy Lee Design and helmet is in great shape, too.

I want $5500. Is that too high?

It might be a bit high for 19k miles but I think it's pretty right on. Plus it's riding season and prices are higher anyway.

Yeah, I figure I am going to get guys saying that it is too steep for the miles but I gotta tell you, bro, the mechanic told me he thought the bike had 5k on it after he checked the front fork seals, brakes, clutch, etc., for me. I have the same brakes on it that were on it when I bought it with 4 miles in the odometer. I was in the shop about 150 miles ago and he wouldn't believe that they were the same brakes. He said they are in fine shape and don't need to be changed yet. lol

I am just hoping that because the bike is in such great shape that I can get that much for it. If not, I suppose I don't need to sell it anyway. I just figured with 4 kids in about 4 months, I won't have any time left to ride.

I've seen that picture with you in front of your bike and I must say it's sweet.

I think you shouldn't have much of a problem getting 5500 for it, hell maybe you can even squeeze a bit more out of it if it's really in the kind of shape you say it's in. If you have all receipts, maintenence records, etc. I don't really think you'll have a problem getting what you want for it.

          That aint bad

Depending on where you live, that shouldnt be a bad price. I know down in FL or places where everyone has a bike that might be a rough price. That Shoe helmet is a nice bonus though. I remember buying a 2000 GSXR in 2002 for 6000.00 with about 3k miles and a yoshi pipe. Other than that stock. Try putting it on Ebay or Cycletrader. I've seen some bikes for some pretty high prices on Ebay.

Before you look into spending the $$ on cycletrader, check out how many zx6-Rs are advertised there. If there's more than just a couple and yours doesn't have an eye-catching price, it's a waste of money. I think ebay's probably your best bet to unload that puppy. I've had my V rod on cycletrader for a month now and in the Washington Post for a week and haven't got 1 call! I'm gonna place it on ebay soon with a lower reserve just to sell it.

I thought your price seemed a tad high considering the higher mileage, plus the new ones msrp at $7,999. It may be tough to sell for $5,500 so I'd lower it, just a bit if you wanna get a buyer soon (or, put $5,500 OBO in your ads). Plus, being buying season, you'd probably find someone quick if your price was low. Here's some comparable Ninja 6s with way less mileage going for about that same price...

I'd keep it and try to ride when you can but that's me

Thanks guys. I guess I am just stuck on the fact that the 19k is not indicative of the wear and tear on the bike. I know the miles are high but they aren't, at the same time, because the miles are highway miles. I don't expect a buyer to understand this completely, though. Also, I don't NEED to sell it as I don't need the money. I am selling it only because I don't have the time to ride it. If I needed the money I would just unload it for less. I think I will list it at that price and just see what happens. Maybe even on E-bay. If I don't sell it after a couple months, then I might lower it.... or just keep it and ride it when I can.

Btw, I love my new R1, but if that wasn't available, I'd have picked up the new Ninja ZX-10R in the green. The headlights look sick...like a pissed off hornet...not to mention it's the lightest liter bike ever!.....as you can see.... I'm hoping you keep it.

keep it-with 4 kids you just might need an emergency escape plan-no quicker way to the border than on a bike!!

It isn't the kids I need to run from - it is my WIFE! hehe

I listed it today at $5500. I don't know if it will sell or not so I really can't lose. If I sell it, cool. If not, I still have a bike to ride once a month. lol
