  • Wisdom Teeth - ooooooooooouch!

i woke up yesterday and my jaw was hurting, but i didnt think much of it. So, when i woke up this morning, i realized my jaw hurt like fucking hell. I talked to Brooke (a friend), b/c she had this problem about 2-3 weeks ago. she told me she had to have her wisdom teeth removed. she told me that it is probably the same problem that she had, and until they get taken out the pain will just get worse.....HOW THE HELL CAN IT?....but i dont know when i can get them taken out, and it even hurts to eat......anybody have any temp. solutions for the pain?

btw...are wisdom teeth usually removed at an office or the hospital?

A little bit of novacane and those suckers will pop right out....its done at the dentist's office...Unless they are impacted or coming in the wrong way, its not too bad....Just don't do all 4 at the same time!

Guys, I know they're called 'permanent' teeth, but can wisdom teeth grow back? I've had all four of mine removed before, but in the past year or so I've had teeth 'cut' back into the SAME PLACE the wisdoms were removed. Hmmm...maybe my quack ass dentist removed the wrong teeth? There's all kinda weird physical crap wrong with me...LOL.

And oh yea in response to you...

It's a very simple procedure. I got mine removed as soon as I started feeling pressure back there becuase I've heard some horror stories of how bad it hurts. It's just done in a regular dentist's office, you don't have to go to a freakin' hospital, LOL.

Heckman, mine were actually pushing diagonally on the teeth in front of it. Yea, lotsa pressure there. As soon as I felt it, I made an appointment for the next damn day. Fuck that. LOL.

My wisdom teeth grew in about 2 years ago or so. My gums felt sore as they were not used to teeth back there but now they are fine. Luckily, they grew in correctly so they will be with me to the grave.

LOL, I was a so impatient and wanted to get rid of all 4 right away, but one was just to deep so that had to wait,........ 3 of my wisdom teeths were taken rather early so it took pretty long time to heal,..... I could chew the day after I think and don't remember having much pain, it was just boring to be spitting blood for the first two day's or so,...... about two weeks later I still had a little blood taste in my mouth when I woke up.

The procedure is nothing to worry about, not painful at all, well the needle wasn't to great though, I could swear that the dentist stuck the needle about 2 inches into the flesh back in my mouth, lol.

Ambesol will help w/ pain...it is an OTC mild pain reliever applied locally. Some IB or aspirin may help too....but make a dentist appt. Read on, you will see why.

Most dentists can get them out, no problem. What happens with wisdom teeth is that we have loose flaps of gum tissue around them, and inevitably, some food particles get trapped in there and the rotting begins.
My oral surgeon explained all of this too me as I was having him take mine out at the age od 33 or so. I was suprised there was any rotting, because i am in fact anal about my teeth. I kkep them clean and white.

I had a bizarre experience with my wisdom teeth. I had alot of pain in my front teeth one morning...so I went to see a dentist. He took x rays.....only of my front teeth. He didn't find anything. He gave me some codiene...I took it, and felt fine for about 2 weeks.

Then my teeth-front teeth and canines-started up again. I went to another dentist-he took x-rays again (these dentists won't use someone else's x-rays, guess they gotta eat too you know) and he didn't see anything either. All of my roots were in good shape...no dead teeth or anything. So he sent me to a periodontist-and those people scare me. They cut up your gums and don't accomplish a damn thing except emptying one's bank account.

I arrived at the periodontist right after i left the other dentist's office. Again, he took his own x-rays (now I have 150 bucks invested in x-rays) and he said my gums were great...

3 dentists, and no one can find out what is killing me,lol. I told the periodontist I needed something for the pain.....or i just might do some irrational stuff. The pain was killing me.

He gave me codiene. This was on thursday, July 3rd. I knew I was going to be in a jam, as all dentist offices would be closed for a 3 day week end. I had 8 codiene tabs...I knew i was going to be in trouble.
I went through tubes of anbesol too.....

The next Monday I was in excruciating pain...and went to my childhood dentist. He looked in my mouth....and asked me if i really had been to 3 other dentists. I said yep. He asked me if any of them asked about my wisdom teeth. I said nope. He told me that my wisdoms were the problem...2 of them were literally falling apart. He took a whole dental x-ray, the one that goes 360 degrees around you. He showed me where there were big holes in my wisdoms. He called a friend -an oral surgeon-and the guy could see me in 2 days. My childhood dentist gave me a script for 32 codiene tabs.

On the day before I saw the oral surgeon I was taking one codiene tab every hour...and the pain was still working me over. Your only supposed to take about 5-6 tabs per day . I took 15 or so in one day.

The oral surgeon didn't have to operate...he reached in with some *pliers* and got 3 of them out...another just crumbled.

I would say get those puppies out....even if the ambesol/aspirin alleviate the pain, it will come back with a vengeance, lol.

I just had mine taken out in August. Went right into the oral surgeon's office and was done in 30 min. Apparently they don't put you to sleep but it's the point where you don't remember anything that occured. I was lucky and didn't need any stitches for any of the 4 teeth I had removed. He said I could go back to the gym whenever I wanted but I ended up taking 4 or 5 days off just for the hell of it.
