  • To Anyone Who's Seen Markus Ruhl's Video (And Anyone Else)

When he is training legs, he goes and does plate loaded squat machine. We have one of these at my gym and I was thinking of using it for my quad movement, since we don't have a hack squat machine. Just wondering if anyone has used it before and what you think.

I have seen the pictures of it and it looks like the bodymasters one at my old gym. I used it a few times and it was a good machine either way you use it(which ever way you face towards the machine or away from it) I personally like to use it facing away and going really deep. The other way you can't go as deep but you can pile on the plates.

We have a Nautilus machine that's not plate loaded, but it has the pin stack. It, in a word, fuckingsucks. However I did manage to turn our standing calf raise into a hack squat, LMAO, worked pretty damn well. We have a real hack now though, thank god for that. How does he squat on it? I should be getting the video here in a couple days so I hope I can see it then. Is the mechanism one that moves when you push your FEET on it or is it one that moves when you push upwards on it?

Duuuuude! That is exactly how I used the standing calf raise machine at my gym. It worked great, but put too much stress on my lower back.

I still don't think you can top free weight squats for leg mass.

I don't see why you could not do them....

Markus did thses as a fininshing exercise at the end of his workout to burn them out, something he picked up from one of the other pro's he's seen train.

I've done them a very long time ago, and never really cared for them myself, but everyone is different.

We have the same machine except the pads where his shoulders go dont angle like that, they are straight.

I call it a hack squat around here, its also called a v-pivot squat on hammersmith site.

To be honest standing in it the right way felt like too much pressure on the knees and the other way doesnt feel very comfortable either.

Massive, are you talking lower back injuries? Because when I used the calf raise as a hack, after a while I started feeling too much pressure on my lower back even though my form was great. That's why I stopped them.

Just registered after reading up a little(understatement) on D.C. training and going at it full steam. To get back to the thread without hijacking, it looks like a Power Squat, except the plate base in flat as opposed to an incline, but it could be the angle of the picture. The fellas at elitefts sell one and use it quite religiously when they want to keep weight off their back, but I find @ 6 ' 3 that it puts a lot of stress on my lower back.

I would assume they would be lower back injuries. Notice in the pic where his back is slightly rounded.
