  • Super size me

Have any of you seen the movie super size me? This guy eats nothing but McDonalds food for 30 days. It is amazing how it effects his health, he actually started to show signs of liver failure and the initial stages of diatetes. All of his blood values were completely out of whack and I believe he gained something like 25 lbs before it was all over with. The doctor could not believe this was happening from the food. If you have not seen this you really owe to yourself to check it out as a fitness and lifting enthusiast. Great Movie!!

I do have to disclose that this guy did everything he could to make his health poor. He completely stopped all physical activity, stopped drinking water, stopped taking vitamins and the only food & Drinks he consumed was that from McDonalds. His rule was that he had to eat everything on the menu at least once in 30 days and if asked to super size he had to do it. Very cool stuff and really makes you realize what you put in your body does matter.

I saw this at the movie theatre and totally agree with bigp3. Anyone who is a fitness enthusiast will love this movie. Very smartly done, and it speaks upon other issues that I am passionate about such as school lunches, physical education, etc.

It is obvious the reason that so many Americans are fat is because of how their nutritional ideals were set down as kids. I know my Mom and school stuffed me full of junk when I was a kid. When I became an adult I began my interest in fitness and I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew about nutrition and start over from scratch. The average American just falls into these habits created from childhood and if we do nothing to change what kids are eating we will have an epidemic on our hands. I mean kids are showing up with diabetes at record numbers now and this is quite disturbing.

Anyone notice that he went from [email protected]%BF to [email protected]%BF which is 17lbs of fat and 7lbs of muscle? Unless my math is off that is just another example of high calories being anabolic......................Now where did I put those McD's gift certs my inlaws gave me......

I just saw this movie yesterday. Its really sad about the situation with our kids today. Something needs to change.

As for the guy on the MC-Diet...I was most suprised about his liver values. Those are some seriously high numbers. People on oral drugs, alcohol, or who have heapatitis don't have SGOT numbers in the 200's. That was truly amazing.

This post proves again how important is food in health and in our bodybuilding lifestyle.
I was only kidding about this diet being "good".

However, If their calculations were correct then:

[email protected]%BF=165lbs LBM and 20lbs BF

[email protected]%=172lbs LBM and 37lbs BF

This would mean he gained 7 lbs of muscle by just increasing his calories and doing nothing right?

My point was if he gained muscle along with fat by eating nothing but shit it's further proof that high calories are extremely anabolic. Just imagine what one could gain if he were training correctly and those calories were in the form of quality bodybuilding food instead of McD's.

The liver values got me too. His doc said that, if he were drinking alcohol to get those numbers, he'd be dying soon.

Did anyone watch the extras on the disk, in particular "The Smoking Fry". They take several jars and put McD's fries in one, regular fries in another, a bunch of different McD's burgers in the rest and then a regular burger in another. After 1 week the "normal" homecooked/ street vendor burger and fries were decomposing. Most of the McD's stuff still looked new. After the next few weeks the McD's burgers started to breakdown and after 8-10 weeks the McD's fries looked pretty much fresh cooked. He then says "What will these things do in your stomach?"

YUCK!!! I wanted to puke after seeing this movie and I think I've cured my cravings for Fast Food for a LONG time.

One thing I didn't like was how he singled out McD's pretty much, but they are the king of the hill I guess.

I DID like how he investigated what kids were being fed and eating at schools. Pure crap food. Everthing they eat, even the school prepared lunches, are pure processed crap. I think our Military eats better. It was also sad to see that those elementary kids get gym class 1 time a week for 30 minutes. I had it every day and then at recess (2-3 times a day) we would wrestle, play football and basketball and never slowed down. We'd play football after school until it got dark and then we'd go home.

It was a rarity to see anyone "overweight" in grade school. I think the "fat" kid we all picked on was really just "normal" sized and the rest of us were Paris Hilton look-a-likes...BARF!

i actually have a copy of this movie on dvd. did anyone else bother to look at the experiment when he put mcdonalds food and real food in jars to see how long it would take to start moulding? the mcdonalds fries looked exaclty the same after 13 weeks.... the mcodonalds sandwiches got sick looking in a few weeks.

the regular burger and fries were unrecognizable in like a week.

but he only super sized it 5 times and limited his steps to the same # of the average american (about 5000).

That is amazing about the food decomposing,,,, I guess it is all the chemicals that they pack in this shit that keeps it together...
