  • Supposed to keep elbows tucked on reverse grip smith bench ?

    Sup fella's ??

I'm keen to give reverse grip smith press a try when I next switch up my 5x5 exercises but am not quite sure about form.

I've done some searching and found that grip should be just wider than shoulder width, however I am wondering whether I should try to keep elbows tucked close to my torso or will they naturally be a little flared out throughout the movement ?.

I apologise if this question is asked regularly, I did quite an extensive search.

    Cheers.

Eh, you're telling me you keep your elbows tucked when dumbell/barbell military pressing and dumbell/barbell pressing for chest ??

maybe im suffering from lack of protein or carbs right now but when you do reverse bp and you have your hand position a couple of inches away from your shoulders with elbows tucked in that would be hell on the wrist,

pretty much. now obviously i don't keep them tucked right in, that'd be next to impossible or at the very least very uncomfortable, but they're tucked and not flared out.

Ooooh, a coupe inches away, I dunno, I always keep my pressings shoulder width all the time.

LP, We all have a diffence of opinions on Triceps with elbows in or out, this is what I do for Reverse Grip Press, hands 4" wider than shoulders, bar across my palm with thumb and first two fingers gripping the bar only, ass off the end of the bench, so upper and lower back on bench only and I push up a little to get my pelvic up a bit so I can pin my shoulders to the bench, and when I come down my elbows are not tucked and not flared, I am in the middle so to speak, you must find what position does not bother your joints, I have bad everything so I must work around injuries.

                  IH thanks a lot mate.

I will experiment like you said and try and find the most comfortable without taking emphasis off tricpes.

Exactly,.... personally my elbows are very close to my body and even in the bottom position they are a little closer together than my wrists, it just doesn't feel comfortable to my wrist/elbows otherwise,.... it's like a reverse wide grip bicep curl with elbows close to the body and my wrists a little wider than shoulder width.
