yes post work out and if dieting they will contribute heavily..but someone offseason the only contribution is post WO....take advantage of the off season with red meat etc.
They can help reduce catabolism when dieting but that's all I'll say cause..any way...I'd save the money for real food offseason and use the bcaa's when dieting.

If you can afford them, take them, period. I like Optimum's BCAA's. I think they do make a difference...especially over time.

Me too. I dunno what it's like to NOT take BCAAs, but I don't wanna find out either, LOL. I just prefer having them in my supplement arsenal.

          I have noticed a difference.
I use ICE by Xtreme formulations.
5 g before with protein, creatine, dext, & fruct
5 g after with protein, creatine, & dext
I got the fruit punch flavor because the stuff I mix with is strawberry & fruit punch flavor, but the grape tastes best if using alone.
You can buy the smaller bottles now and try it to see if you like it. 70 servings cost much less than 70 equivalent servings of capsules
you can get it most places like bulknutrition, bb.com, blackstar, etc..
If you want to add them, I suggest this method over the others. I've switched for good.

I always got them in capsule form. I've tried the powder and it was just a bitch, this stuff DOES NOT MIX. Those of you that have used it before know what I'm talking about. I've been meaning to ask Doug or Dante about BCAAs, as a matter of fact.

Not to put a negative turn on anything but has anyone heard that to much Leucine will cause an amino imbalance since really the other two BCAAs are not as important as Leucine and that this can cause decreases in Valine and Isoleucine and blood and muscle tissue. I also have read that a high intake of Leucine will in long term depress food intake and growth.

Now I do understand you must supplement them together over being alone, but just thought I would add what I have read...

I understand what you are talking about, but this stuff mixes very well in the concoction I make. The whole thing is pretty foamy anyway, but I have no problem with the ICE not mixing.

This is a quote from Bodyfx2 on MM. He's pretty knowledgeable and natural trainee so he experiments a lot with supplements.
He wrote a thread on BCAA's in a cocktail and it's uses...

                  one of his quotes.........
"I have made some of my best gains supplementing with as much as 35 g of supplemental BCAAs per day, so yes, if you want more size you can use more BCAAs...but do not expect this to be your "magic bullet." The training and overall nutrition plan must be on target as well."

For me I'll save my $ and eat steak and lean ground beef as well as tons of Whey to supplement more aminos and save the BCAA's for dieting as I can take in as much as 50-100 grams a day during this time and it gets expensive.
The 4 page thread is a pretty good read and it contains a cocktail formula not just BCAA's but it's a good read.
Also Eric gets his supplements very very very cheap because he works for VPX.
Be nice to post a thread on feedback while using this stuff...right now BIG PHIL is using them on PM.
Third day on this mixture I ordered from them. Maybe it is a placebo effect, but I am stronger, more energy, feel TONS better. I really think it is the amino mixture though. I will keep you updated.

G, you know I respect bodyfx and he is a very smart guy and I tried his cocktail a while back. You can see where I was responding and inquiring on a few things there, and I gave it a test run for quite a while. But man, to me it was incredibly overhyped. I was on the cocktail for a few months, so that was enough time to see very good results from what he said, and I practically broke the bank in the process, LOL. Talk about an expensive supplement regimen. I noticed very little if any difference, my gains were pretty much the same. The only 'benefits' I received were from the extra glutamine and creatine, but they were nothing that I didn't expect from just running creatine and glutamine by themselves. I got quite a deal on a good amount of BCAAs in the past so I'm going to use these last that I have until they run out, from there on out though they will probably no longer be a part of my daily supplements. Too expensive for my liking. BCAAs help IMO, but weighing the price:benefit ratio, they are just overpriced if you ask me. I will look into the ICE that you mentioned ctgblue though, I have heard lots about it but I was under the impression that it was pretty expensive as well. Seems like you say otherwise

this sums up my feelings on the subject except to add i always use 3g arginine with my post workout drink.

The decision of which supplements do and which don't make the cut for me is usually based upon results compared to cost and honestly most don't make the cut....In order here's what I value enough to add to my permanent supplement stack

                          WPI
                          Hydro Whey
                          Micellar Casein
                          Dextrose/Malto
                          Creatine
                          Glutamine
                          Green Tea
                          Multi Vitamin
                          EFA's
                          Anti-Oxidants (a,c & e)

and that's pretty much it year round

That's pretty much it for me as well except I generally use WPC more (just for financial reasons).

I learned very early on that it does not get any better than the basics. The most inexpensive things (except glutamine) that you can buy and the ones that are the most readily available are the ones that should be a permanent part of your supplement regimen. I have so many people ask me if I've tried Triple Decker Whey Proprietary Blend with added Kryptonite and I just have to tell them no, I don't know shit about the new hyped up stuff that comes out. 99.9999% of the time, it's either the cheapest whey (WPC) or cheapest creatine with some sort of 'blend' of amazingly cheap ingredients that can be had all together for 1/4 the price of the new product. They give you a pound of creatine with some added pwo carbs in there, charge you $50.00 a pound where in actuality you could have had purer ingredients separately and paid $50.00 for five whole pounds instead.

BCAAs do help and I have been using them forever, but I think I am going to give them the boot after I finish the rest of mine. I just don't see the benefits outweighing the cost here. Face it, these things are expensive. If I can find a very cheap source I may start using them again, but I think I am just going to go with whole food with all that saved money instead.
