  • First TrueProtein order; advice wanted

I am getting ready to place my first TrueProtein order. Are there any recommended mixes out there that I should try. I am going to focus my order on post work out and supplementation to meals when it becomes absolutely impossible to take another bite of steak. Are there any proven mixes that you guys swear buy?

Also why I have your attention, being that I am new to DC style training ,here is question that relates to an article by DC in another recent post dealing with HIT and warm up sets and work sets. Lets say a lightweight" (185lbs) is on his Bi, Forearm, calf, hammy, quad split. Lets further say that for hammy he is doing sumo leg press and for quads the leg press. Is it feasible that after doing a 20 rep straight work set of sumo hammy press that all the trainee would need would be one warmup set before the work set?

  • #2
It feasible but I'll tell you what I do....Remember that you're hitting a completely different part of your leg when you do sumo leg press as opposed to regular LP's and to me even after doing my work set for hamstrings I don't feel that my quads are quite ready to go all out.My work set for Hams is usually (depending on the leg press) 12 plates or so and I'll break it down and start my warmups all over again for quads at 2 plates a side but with foot placement being low and wide.

Protein?...I'd vote for WPI as an all round daytime/postworkout protein.

      :iagree:

Go with one of the WPI's or a mix of them. Best mixability and versatility.

Talking about leg workouts and warmups, the other day was legs for me and I tried not to warmup properly on the leg press and I failed getting even one. As soon as I got it to the top I knew it was too heavy. So I stripped 300 or so off and started warming up properly. Then I got that weight easy.

I actually "FELT" stronger by the time I got to my workset.

This isn't the only time that warming up or working up in weights has made me feel this way. Huhhh.

You guys ever amazed at the LACK of warm up sets that people do while at the gym? I generally don't pay people a whole lot of mind while I'm there but sometimes I just notice things, you know...99% people doing NO warm up at all, some people just going around and doing whatever happens to be on a bar for reps (or injuriously trying to), etc etc.

                (turns the rant button off)

I like to see the guys come straight into the gym, go right to the bench press, put 135 on the bar and do a warmup set.... Wait a few minutes, put 155 on the bar and do a work set...LOL

i would say the most popular PWO protein is definitely the plain old WPI ion-exchange. it is probably the easiest to get down...

Jim, you need to remember that you're not only warming up the muscles and joints, you're also making the nervous system ready.

What I do when warming up for my first exercise of the day is 5 warmup sets like this:

                      1. ~12 reps with about half the weight of the working set.

                      2. ~10 reps with the same weight or slightly more.

                      3. ~6 reps with more weight

                      4. ~3 reps with more weight

                      5. 1-2 reps with weight close to the working set, I sometimes go with a little more weight than the working set here (I go by feel).

I usually take about 2-3 minute rest between the warmup sets and then rest maybe 3 minutes before the workset. And when I do my workset (RP) I feel very strong because my nervous system is totally ready (it's kinda surprising).

For the rest of the exercises I do 1-4 warmups, usually 2 depending on how warm/acclimated that muscle group is after the other exercises.
each day is an opportunity to move you closer to your goals.

Thanks Egill, how's the training going brother?

E, Usually.........I warmup with what MY body deems as adequate, but what happened was the powerlifters were deadlifting right next to my legpress and I was watching them and feeding off their power vibes (lol) and I stretched my rest in between leg bodyparts a little longer than usual and I was so psyched to hit thighs that I quickly threw on another hundred and tried to go right into it.

                        My bad!

I know what you mean about being suprised after doing a bunch of warmups, some would believe that you would be weaker. But I don't even get close to failure on warmups, that would hinder my workset(s).

No problem bro,.... I'm still in my second blast and gaining slowly, I didn't start to gain any new muscle until after the first 8 weeks in this blast and now I have been blasting for 12 weeks and I still don't need to cruise (my straingth gains have alway's been so slow).

tread carefully, we don't want to go too long.

so am I to take it that you judge whether to cruise mainly on "strength dropping"?

I was able to feel "ready" personally.
