  • High Blood Pressure

    Early last week guys I went to the doc for a small problem with my ear and they did the usual BP check and it came back nearly 150 over 110,,, no shitting. The Med Tech checked it again to make sure the nurse was not nuts and it came back 140 something of 103 or close to it, I don't remember exactly. The doc gave me the lecture and told me to buy a bp monitor and check it 3 times a day starting off in the AM upon waking and write them down so I did. I knew that my diet was a little slack and that I am somewhat sodium sensitive so I cut out the junk in my diet, no processed foods and limited my condiment use to a minimum. I checked my bp as told to by the doc and after 3 days of eating better it dropped dramatically. In the last 4 days it has not gone over 120 over 80 at the worst and is usually 120 over the mid 70's. This is nuts I had no idea I was this sodium sensitive. So if any of you have bp problems maybe try this solution..

    On a sidenote the first BP cuff the nurse brought out to test me with would not fit my arms,,, lol... That made me proud. They had to get the fat boy cuff and it barely fit.... LOL.. My arms must be growing DC.

      I was going to touch base on this topic in the main forum, but I might as well do it here. I have been taking heavy androgens (drol, etc) and I always get a heavy bloat that causes many problems (BP being one). So I recently decided to take aldactone throughout the cycle to minimize the water gain. I will be switching to diazide once the aldactone runs out. I figured that people take this stuff on a daily basis for high BP so why can't I do it to keep off the water gain that is causing me problems?

      So far so good, I am loving it. I am nice and defined all day long.

        I've had mild Hypertension since I was around 18. It wasn't until 2 years ago that it became high enough to require RX. I'm currently taking HCTZ (Hydrochlorothiazide)@ 20mg ED. It's mild and is Potassium sparing unlike Lasix. The only side effects are constant trips to the bathroom at all hours of the night. :grumpy:

          Hydrochlorothiazide is one of the two ingredients in diazide. I don't understand why bodybuilders are so afraid of these potassium sparing diuretics when there are people taking them for years to battle high blood pressure.

            What are the possible side effects of hydrochlorothiazide?
            • If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking hydrochlorothiazide and seek emergency medical attention:
            · an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
            · unusual fatigue;
            · abnormal bleeding or bruising;
            · yellow skin or eyes;
            · confusion;
            · irregular heartbeats or a fluttering feeling in your chest; or
            · little or no urine.
            • Other, less serious side effects are more likely to occur. Continue to take hydrochlorothiazide and talk to your doctor if you experience
            · dizziness, especially when you switch to sitting or standing from a lying position;
            · tingling or numbness in your arms, legs, hands, or feet;
            · excessive urination;
            · muscle weakness or cramps;
            · increased hunger or thirst;
            · nausea or decreased appetite;
            · abdominal pain;
            · sensitivity to sunlight; or
            · impotence.
            • Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

            Wow...see the one about yellow skin or eyes? That is jaudice my friend, as in liver failure.

            If someone is using AAS, especially an oral like A-50 or dbol they may want to avoid using this drug if at all possible.

            Even if using AAS there is an extremely good chance that the user can avoid high BP by taking control of their diet as Bigp3 has done.

            I am just amazed at how so many people will casually pop pills on top of pills and think that there is no repercutions involved.

            Oh what the hell, let's just take Anadrol, test, tren, throw in some of these water pills, some Viagra on the weekends so we can have a hard time (hey these water pills may make you impotent so lets throw another drug in the mix to combat that) and people wonder why their liver is ready to fall out in a smoking heap.

            RX diruetics are nothing to take lightly. Make dietary changes first and foremost.

                I guess I should have been clearer in my response to stormshadow.

                I was diagnosed with Hypertension from a MD. I haven't used AAS since 1988. The Hypertension I have is Hereditary. I was prescribed HCTZ by my MD. I have been a Paramedic for over 8 years and know from my experience that HCTZ is a very mild Diuretic and effective for the control of Hypertension.

                I wouldn't have commented on such a serious condition as Hypertension and the use of Diuretics if I didn't have the background and experience to back it up.

                    I took a combo diuretic 5 years ago for BP and developed the "sunlight sensitivity" so bad My eyes started involuntarily closing and I have to have drops to this day(probably forever) to be able to function. My eyes still bother me at all times. When I reported this to the doctor he said "it couldn't happen". I said "thats funny because the package insert says it can and so does the pharmacist". The pharmacist says it happens to people sensitive to sulfa drugs. Believe me its impacted my quality of life a lot.

                      BIGP3,

                      If the proper size bp cuff wasn't used then your readings are not going to be accurate...the staff should have been aware of this...the width of the cuff must be able to go around your arm 2/3 rd of the way to assure the right size cuff for the job...let your arm size shrink done to 13" and i'll bet your pressure will be fine ...lol

                        Please don't self medicate meds like diruetics and high BP meds.
                        They may combat the hypertension but a lot of the meds are hard on the kidneys.
                        Mine has been high for years on or off when you weigh 270 plus for many years it's gonna be.
                        My doc has me on 2 lil meds that keep my BP at 130/80 on average year round..but finding the meds took many attempts as some had too many sides and didn't work as well.
                        Everyone who juices especially with androgens is susceptable to steroid induced polycythemia.
                        In short:
                        Androgens stimulate the kidneys to produce EPO---EPO stimulates the bone marrow to make RBC's---RBC's are produced with no negative feedback mechanism-RBC's live for four months so I don't know how many people that juice and take 4 plus months off between cycles.

                        Short-Androgens(particularly Anadrol/Test DECA Dball EQ etc.) lead to thicker blood-even further complicated by *some* BP meds and a lot of diuretics that reduce blood volume further.

                        This is just a general post to all to inform some risks associated with self medication of any drug...not a flame or criticism of anyone's lifestyle.

                              I was put on TEVETEN, which is the mildest BP med you can get, no real sides for me.
                              My BP is still a bit high when ON, but other than that it's high normal 129/85
