so i'm lifting today really wishing i had a partner. on my close grip bench presses i was on my second rest pause when my arms decided not to push the bar up. so i rest it on my chest so i can move my arms out and after pressing it like it was 500lbs i move it up about 6 inches to barely rack it on a lower rung. hope no one noticed that. also i want to start doing rack chins but don't know if i can do this with a partner. anyone have any ideas?

Trinitymuscle, first off, alot of us don't have partners. There's good points and bad points. Bad points are obvious, the good points are time saving.
Another point could be putting up with bullshit, like a drinking problem they have, lol. J/K.
Seriously, sometimes conversations may be distracting. Especially if cell phones are going off all the time. Waiting, wondering, if they are gonna show. I've been through it before!
That's why those of us without partners like the Smythe Machine. Yes, I like spelling it that way.
When it comes to rack chins, you don't need a partner. What part of rack chins do you think you can't do without a partner?

Hey trinitymuscle you can do rack chins without a partner, I was doing them by myself until just last week I got a partner. I would shove weights into my lifting belt or I would attach a chain to my belt and whatever weight I would use to the chain. Or you could get someone to place a plate on your lap once you have your feet up on the bench, it wroks either way. I prefer the partner placing the weight on my lap.Comment

On the close-grip bench, try using the Smythe Machine. If you don't have one of those, then use a power cage.
I use the DC method without a training partner, and there are some things that take getting used to. But with time, and some practice, I am very comfortable doing this program on my own.
The toughest thing for me was getting used to doing rack chins. I couldn't quite get the hang of that. I would try strapping plates to my body, which just didn't work all that great. Then I experimented with using benches on either side of me with a barbell......didn't like that much either. Now, I use plates that I set in my lap. I just put some plates next to me, and I grab them with one arm while I hold the bar with the other arm. This works the best for me because I can just stack plates. Occasionally they will fall off trying to get into position, but not too often. Then when your done with the set......just roll your body to one side, and the plates just fall off onto the floor.Comment

Smith machine, power racks where you can set the catches, DB's for some things, and don't forget about hammer strength and other machines that you don't need a spotter for.
Not having a training partner is no excuse for not getting it done. If you want it bad enough, figure it out.
Besides, a trainer partner can be a burden unless you have an awesome one (like me).Comment
