  • Rack Chin Form

I have a question on rack chin form. I've read everything in the forums about them, so I know you're supposed to put your feet on a bench and put the bar at a height so that your butt is below your feet at the starting position. So at the beginning of the movement your body is forming an "L" shape. My question is, are your somehow supposed to maintain that "L" shape throughout the movement? When I do these my body wants to straighten out so that at the top of the movement my body is a straight line. Is this right?

you should make an "L" at the top of the movement. you just pull yourself straight up, then let yourself go straight down... at the very bottom you'll be more of a V. since your feet will be higher than your butt.

Alright thanks. I think my problem may be that I'm putting the bench too far away.

yeah, try adjusting it a little... if it feels awkward, its probably not right. i just think of doing a pull up, but different... i'll just leave it at that b/c if i keep rambling i know i'll confuse the hell out of everyone.

so when you start you are in more of a V shape w/ your butt down further than your feet? Then at the top you are an L? What do you prop your feet on? Also, which is better to use...a squat rack or smythe machine? Thanks!

it really doesnt matter what you use. i normally use the smith, but as long as its a bar that you can hang on to with space to prop your feet on something, it doesnt matter. i use those adjustalbe incline benches and they work nicely.

Now guys this is what I do, if you have a free standing adjustable Decline Bench move it into the Cage or Smythe machine and I turn the bench around so the back of my heels are on the rollers where your feet normally hook into when you are Declinning correctly and I adjust the bench to its highest point. So when you go up and down your feet are just rolling on the rollers of the bench. If your bench is to high you can bring the bar you grab onto down a bit so when you are at the bottom of the position your ass is almost touching the floor, just get your damn feet higher than your ass and keep your back straight the whole movement and sqeeze those lats...
