  • More cardio for me!

Hey guys, just started my blast this week. I am carrying a little more fat than I'd like, so now I am very strict on the carb cutoff, as well as the cardio.

I plan to do 30 minutes of low cardio on my non-training days(like we're supposed to do), but I'd like to do more. I was thinking of maybe two sessions on Sunday, or something to that extent.

Any opinions? Whens the best time to add another session or two of cardio per week?

    Thanks guys!

I think if you do the 30 minutes and stay fairly clean on the diet following the carb cut offs you should be in good shape. I have found that too much cardio kills your gains. What I suggest is to just drop some of the garbage from your diet (i.e. sugar, pizza, fast food, chips, beer,) or whatever your vice may be. It does not take a lot to make a difference.

personally if i am feeling a bit on the tubby side i find manipulating diet works out better then doing more cardio. what i like to do if i am really inactive due to work or winter crappiness is to eat carbs for my first meal, pre and post workout and that is it. protein wise i still eat whatever i want but i watch those carbs like a hawk and outside of those three meals i eat only leafy green veggies (ie salads, brocoli, celery, and that sort of thing) protein and fats.

a training day for me would look like this diet-wise.

      meal 1
bowl of all bran in skim milk or oatmeal (mixing in some all bran in with your oatmeal while it cooks helps bump up the fiber content which i like)
20 egg whites scrambled or roughly 60g protein shake

      2
ground beef stirfried with some onions and peppers or protein shake in water with some olive oil

      3
chicken/beef with salad or same as 2

      4
      same as 2 or 3

      5
two cups of cottage cheese mixed with some yogurt or protein shake in juice
      bowl of oatmeal

      6
shake with 60g protein and 80-100g of malto/dextrose

      7
      same as 2

      8
      2 cups cottage cheese

I agree, I find it is easier to manipulate the calories as opposed to tearing up your body with more cardio.

For myself I do no "cardio" per say, I have been into martial arts for 12 years, and I find doing heavy bag work will wear you out and burn calories better than anything IMO. It is also great for delts and lats. Ever seen a boxer with small lats? Thats the bag work bro.

my experience with more cardio with strict carb diet is that the fat came off but i didnt gain much if any muscle. i didnt lose any muscle though. 1 option might be to shead the pounds first while staying with the muscle you already have then ones you reach your desired weight you can get back to muscle building with slight changes that you had before so you dont gain much fat while continuously making muscle gains

Thanks for the tips guys. I guess I'll stick with the unmodified cardio and just watch those carbs.

My problem is I'm still at a point where I don't know what had a lot of carbs, and what has next to none, I guess it will just take some more nutrition facts browsing, huh?

I struggle with teh cardio /diet thing a lot myself. I find that I can quickly get to feel lethargic if I dont do cardio a couple of times a week. I have been experiemting with Spinning classes actually - I dont try to keep up with teh class I just try to keep moving. Its keeping my lean which at this point in the game is crucial beacuse I too easliy pick up fat now where I neevr did before. I fight Ju-jitsu and play rugby- well I did , I have only lifted this year and will stay just lifting until next. When I fought I stayed leaner and did not feel as i hurt my gains so much as i hurt my focus and time concerns etc. I loved teh suggestion to do bag work. I am going to start doing this for sure now. GREAT suggestion, that might be aperfect solution ! Thanks !

                bag work is awesome cardio.

spinning class is where a bunch of people get together and pretend to ride a bike right?

Spinning is where the bike is one with a tiny seat that hurts your crotch ( so you have to use a gel cover for teh seat ) and where teh music is cranked way loud whichis cool if you like the tune, sucks if you dont. The babe factor keeps me going through it though.
i am going to do some bag work tomorrow. Or I might sopend some time hitting Bob , what do you call Bob in the States? He´s the rubber torso dude .
