  • Negatives

I have noticed that when I concentrate on the negative on a particular movement I find myself moving the weight just as slow on the positive. I was curious to see if there is something I can do to counter this and maybe improve the explosion at the beginning of the positive movement to get the weight up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

why are you so concerned with lifting it faster?

Conan -- I am wanting to get the weight up as quickly as possible -- I have noticed that when I emphasize the negative I usually bring the weight up with a slow tempo, thus limiting how many reps I can perform.

doesn't jerking (exploding) the weight up cause momentum?

What up TrulyHuge! Good to see you here bro!

Conan -- what happens to me is that I concentrate on the negative and I try to explode the weight up, but after the 8th or 9th rep I find myself slowing the momentum down on the positive and I am moving the weight slowly -- it's probably fatigue but I want to start making a conscious effort to explode on the positive. I think the pause at the bottom will make a difference -- I will find out tomorrow when I do shoulders.

There would be some momentum involved, but the idea of DC training is to get the most out of the negatives. The positive motion simply sets you up for the next negative.

Sounds like a powerlifting technique that works very well.

                    I do that myself.
