  • scale...

I'm looking to invest in a quality scale before I go back to school. I'd like to purchase one that makes an accurate weight reading but also a BF output(Like the ones you step on with barefeet and it measures your BF somehow). My guess is there are a lot of factors that could make the BF reading pretty innacurate, but might be a nice feature anyway.

What do you guys reccomend as far as a scale goes? I think i'm probably gonna go online shopping for this one. thanks..

I know it wouldn't tell you your bodyfat, but why not just use the one at the gym. Spend the money you'd save on more protein.

For the money, buy a decent scale and some calipers. The bf measurement is horribly inaccurate. You can change the reading by drinking water or eating.

I have one of the scales which reads bodyfat, and a good brand. But I agree it will bounce all over the place. I went back to calipers, the scale was too frustrating for bf.

In Dennis James' first video, he gets on a BF scale after like 4 weeks of dieting. It says his BF is 19%. As the others said, it's not accurate.

I wouldn't go with the weighing/bodyfat scales, it just isnt reliable IMO. Probably the best bodyfat testing for convienence- is using the Lange Caliper- they run about 200 bucks. Accuracy said is to be to one millimeter- but then again it depends on what kind of formula you use and test sites (usually 3 or 4)

Electrical Impedence scales can vary in BF% on Hydration at that moment, so they are not correct, Calipers need to be done correctly of they can be off by 10% in some cases and Hydro Static is very good...

why waste your money on a scale, especially one of those crappy bioelectrical impedence ones? get some full body pictures taken a couple times a year for reference and weigh yourself every couple of months on the scale at your gym or doctors office.

people focus way too much on weight. are you eating lots of protein(2g+/pound/day) and getting progressively stronger? well if you are then it is a much better indicator you are getting bigger then the scale. lovehandles look bigger in your recent set of pictures then they did in the last set, which you can tell by comparing them? if so cut down on the junk/carbs a bit. people overcomplicate this stuff

I guess the BF scale is a bust... didn't wanna drop alotta cash anyway. I really have never judged progress by the scale because my weight is so sparatic anway... usually just go by what the mirror says, like nemo suggested. I just thought I'd get a scale because I'm going back to school in two weeks and I'm going to really work hard to diet down to 10-12% BF(hopefully) and I thought I would keep progress of my weight each week. I don't wanna drop weight too quickly for one thing, and if it's not going anywhere I would up cardio a bit. I'll probably just stick to the gym scale.... thanks for the replies guys.

I have a tanita scale and the only time the thing is somewhat accurate is first thing in the morning before you eat anything or have anything to drink otherwise it is fucked.
