  • Try to beat the reps or weight?

    I know you're supposed to try to beat the weight first, or the reps second. Now if I was shooting for a 11-15 RP on a certain excersize and I hit 11 last time, I try to beat the weight, right?

    Now say I was shooting for 11-15 RP and I only hit 10 last time. Do I NOT add weight to this excersize, but try to beat my 10RP? Or am I allowed to add weight if I know I can get my 11-15?

    Today is my first day I go up against my logbook. My blood is boiling right now, I can barely wait to get in there and make a fool of it.

    Technically, you should just beat the reps, but go for it! Be aggressive.

      You've got it right. If you fall into the required rep range move up. Also, I think if you know you can beat the rep that you failed with last week, definetly move up the weight...its good to push it once in a while. Go get that logbook! :Punch:

        depending on the exercise if you add 'only' 5-10 lbs you can probably go up in both weight and reps.

          Personally I have a exact rep # I need before I move up. Usually 15 but sometimes higher for smaller muscle groups. If I go to low with my reps my RP's looks like 1 and 1 I feel more benefit when I get 15-18 reps. Twoards the end of my blast I was adding reps and weight on almost everything.

            DC himself told me don't set limits on your weights. I would go by how you are feeling on the day you lift. If you feel strong try more weight sometimes, I have shocked myself by how much more I can do. Just make sure you dont sacrifice your form in the quest to add more weight.

              Great advise!, I've done this as well, somedays you can throw 10 or 20 lbs on the stack and still beat the # of reps you did before, everyone gets those great days. :rocker:

                Damn straight, you never give up form for weight, I always try to add weight, but I also give myself a "magic" number on each exercise, when I exceed that rep number I move up in weight...
