  • why lose muscle to move DOWN a class...

I cant understand it...why would anyone try to lose 10 or more pounds to just be in one class down in weight...Everyone said that Marcus was totally ready around 235-237...now at 5-9" that would be huge, considering that he was in great (totally shreeded) shape...I think (just assuming) that he wouldve be cook and everyone else in the class...He probably would've gotten that second procard...From what I heard he got harder on Saturday and Will got softer...So maybe (just maybe) he would've have done it...

What im really trying to get at is...the super's for a few years now...have been weak...I think a guy in great conditioning at 230-235 at 5-10 or so...would win the class anyway...

    Levorne 92 Nats 228lbs
    Flex 92 USA 218lbs
    Chic 02 USA 232lbs (at 6-1")
Cormire 93 USA 224lbs (wouldve been a heavy, but it doesnt matter, he still kills all)
    James 01 USA 232lbs (?)

All these guys are great BB's and yeah, these guys are hall of fame guys...but still Marcus or even Will could've won the super's this past weekend and got a pro card...I guess if your ripped and ready to rock...Just go into the show and give it all you got...At least thats my thinking anyway...but hey what do I know...maybe after the North Americans I will change my mind and go into the USA's next year as a heavy...LOL (yeah right, I plan to be 300+ by DECEMBER) LOL I think 245-250 on stage and shreeded sounds good to me...LOL

    anyway those are my thoughts

beats me. my guess is just like wrestling, maybe he figured he had better odds if he moved down a class and was the heaviest in the group. iv'e never competed though so what do i know.lol

Chris, As heavy hitter said, some do not want to be at the bottom of their class no matter how they came in, they would rather be at the top of the class, makes sense, and I think way too many competitors put to much emphasis on their body weight and not how they look or feel that is the correct weight to be.

I really think its more of an ego thing but if you look at money in endorsements you would will always make more being a winner or close to it than not making the top ten in every show...

I saw Marcus at my show 4 weeks ago, He was 235lbs and very thick and hard.
He said he was set on making 225lbs. I dont know why, but that was his plan.
From what I see he lost thickness from his chest since I saw him last.

        Chris, here's a little insight:
Marcus's prep guy, Tim Gardner ,approached me at my last show with a judge and suggested I do the SE USA as a LtHvy, He said that he thought Id have a very good chance at winning the overall at <198lbs.
So theres the mindset behind Marcus's prep. Im not saying its right or wrong, but Marcus did look great on stage at the USA'a ( from the pics I saw)

          Sweatmachine,

thats what I mean...If he was ready 4 weeks out at 235...then why come down and look smaller...(I did the same thing in 97 for the Mr.Florida show...I was ready at about 205-206 glutes were staited, cross-straitions in my tris, quads, everything...but I decided that if I was that hard at 205 then at 198 I was going to be harder...Man, was I wrong...I just lost muscle and came in flat....big mistake, missed the top 5 and got killed)...

          anyway live and learn...

I think what happens is they look at themselves in the mirror and on the scale and start to feel small compared to there off season weight and that gets in their heads. Then they start imagining all the "monsters" that could show up in the heavier class and think they'll be small. Then they figure "if I drop a class I'll be even more shredded and I'll be the biggest guy in that class" the problem is they don't realize that if there already that shredded and they drop weight it will have to be muscle and dropping that much muscle will make them look worse instead of better. Then after the show they figure they should have won and their "freinds" say "you were robbed" instead of "you kind of looked flat and would have done better in the heavier class, it's all political".-Whoops got a little off topic there sorry.

It's called outsmarting yourself. Guys overanalyze and overthink things when they should be more concerned with the mirror than the scale. JMO,, this is why you need a sound clear thinking trainer/ nutritionalist in your corner.

yea i wish sheer size wasn't so much of a factor. if you put two competitors next to each other and one weighe 250 and the other weighed 235 but was much more shreded and better proportioned, i'd vote for the second guy

Well chris you know what this means? this means Marcus (probably going superheavy at the NA) and some of the guys from the USA are going to be your competition at the North Americans some weeks down the road so keep your mindset and keep on track here.....I can see Chris Cook waiting for the nats but alot of these other superheavies are going to most likely jump in the fray at the NA--so...LET THOSE JUDGES SEE WHAT A TINY WAIST ON A SUPERHEAVY LOOKS LIKE AND BRING IT HARDCORE

You know DC...Im thinking the same thing (tampa on MM already said that Marcus is doing the NA as a super)...So it's going to be interesting to see who shows up at the NA...It might just be a tougher show than the USA's...

Doesnt matter to me...Im just plan on showing up my best and see what happens...

I think that this will be a very competitive show. Chris is right, the superheavys (with the exception of a few) are weak. Why is it so hard for people that do one show, to come into condition
