Hey bros whats up. I have a partially torn miniscus in my knee which has stopped me from squatting for some time now. Today I was planning on squatting again. I was just wondering if I should go ATF or just to parallel. Thanks alot.

Wow, sorry to hear about the tear, take it very easy I would try a couple of very light sets to see wear you stand, do not push it, I would try all the Quad exercises to see what is comfortable and what is not...

Thanks alot bro. I tore it about 3 or 4 months ago. I chose not to get the surgery becasue they werent even sure they could fix it. I am going to jsut start light mayb with jsut the bar to get the feel again and go no heavier than 135. I can do legpresses and hacks. On legpresses i started from a 45 on each side and now i am up to 5 and a quarter on each side. So im working on it. Anyway im off to the gym ill let you know how it goes when I get back. Again thanks alot inhuman.

Im with In-Human. Take it very easy. I suffered a knee injury 3 weeks ago after constantly pushing my damaged and worn knees. Not as severe as yours but i've had problems up until now and im glad it wasnt a tear. Its still stiff and sore when i squat, but i'm only doing bodyweight squats and light leg presses to get blood flowing.

You ofcourse know what has to be done. Coming back into it slowly, minimising any bad movement, like laterally or twisting, bouncing. Keep it controlled and remember to do an extensive warm up before and stretch after.

        Hope its all good.

Do you supplement for your joints?

Bro, why don't you go get it scoped. I have had it done before and it is no biggie. You will be back in action in a month or less and it will be much better than having the torn miniscus. I have no problems doing squats to the floor now!!

Just got home. It felt soooo good to squat again. I went really light, I warmed up with the bar then but on 25's then went to 35's and ended with a 45 on each side. I went ass to the floor and suprisingly it felt great.

bigp3- I was going to get it scoped but I had talked to a few people including 2 doctors and they all said wait and see if it gets better by itself. It has been getting better and stronger by the week. I am going to a different doctor again in a few weeks that just did my fathers surgery so I will see what he says. I will let you guys know how it goes.

            THanks alot

just make sure you take it slow bro and ice it after you work out,,, I know when I had problems in the past sometimes it felt great so I would try it out then the next day it would be swollen up to the size of a softball.

I squat on an ACL reconstruction, and agree with the philosophy that going slightly above parallel puts more shearing force on the knee... surgery was 18 months ago and Im back squatting high 300's ass to the grass with no inflamation or pain

Keeping with this squatting subject and knee injuries i'd like to ask a few questions here.

After having continously injured my knees from quad work ive thought that i might have to back off heavy sets in the low rep range and stick to higher reps to save my knees. But i may be able to do more good if i figure out proper technique in all this.

When i squat down shoulder width with my feet parallel i cant get down with needing to move my knees out or leaning forward and even losing my balance.
I think i owe that to lack of flexibility all over.

So the question i'd like to ask is regarding technique. When you squat how are your feet positioned, where are your hands?

The same with smith squats and the leg press. I just feel when i go down i need to move my legs. they wont stay straight.

What rep range do you think I should stick to. Should I add weight every week or should I concentrate on more reps.

i like to put my feet just slightly in front of me. a little wider than shoulder width with toes pointed slightly out

IMO I would keep the reps high and the weight low for now just to get that right feel back, then you will know when you are strong enough to get heavy again, I would stick to perfect form and not give that up for any amount of weight, just my .02 cents...

Thanks alot inhuman. Today 135 felt perfect. I didnt wanna go any heavier and stress it. I was going ATF though and that was still pretty good. So I will just try and beat it by a few reps next time and maybe jsut increase the weight when it feels right.
