  • DC Routine - Comments/questions

Just starting with DC routine after reading about it the last few days. I'll number my comments / quesitions for easy reference to answer.

    1. I'm an older guy who has trained on and off for years. Made a little progress, but always considered myself a hard gainer with small joints. Guess that is an ectomorph. But much of what I read here makes sense, so started myf first workout today with DC.

    2. On all my warmup sets I did the full 6+ seconds of eccentric part. So took me longer. I have since read that you don't have to do that as much for the warmup sets?

    3. Maybe it is the long negative part, but it seems I am using much less weight than I did before on some of the exercises. Guess that is OK, as long as I progress from here.

    4. If I understand, the key as to how often I'll want to hit a muscle will be how the soreness is coming (althougth stretching, etc can effect that too), and how my energy level feels? I'd like to keep with the twice in 8 days if I can.

    5. Is the day off critical (if feeling good). I know it is stupid, but something about being in the gym every day and being more focused and shorter workout. Guess if it was a good idea, I'd like to split the routine into 4 parts and do one a day without taking days off except every once in awhile. If I understood some of what I read, that may not be so good as the synergies of areas like chest, delt, and tricep means they should be done the same day?

    6. In general any guidelines on the amount of rest between last warm up and the working set?

    7. I'm open to any thoughts other might have and will share how things go over time. I'm 5'10.5" and weight 170 lbs, with bf of around 17%. I'd like to be around 180 or 185 with a bf of about 10%.

    Thanks for you time

    2. No, don't use the long negative on the warm ups. Just the traditional cadence and rest about 30 seconds between warm ups.

    3. Yup, that's exactly what it is. Don't worry about it, those weights go flying back up in no time.

    4. Sounds good, make sure you listen to your body closely though. I'd stick with the MWFM schedule to start off.

    5. No no no, trust me...you need all the days off you can get! This is a very intense program and you do not want to workout that often. If you want to break up the body parts even further, I'd ask Dante about that to get the green light from him.

    6. There is no need to rest a whole lot between warm up sets. I dunno what Dante recommends for older guys, but he typically recommends resting aboubt 30 seconds between warm ups. So as long as you are warmed up and mentally ready for you working set..I say go for it.

    7. You will be at that weight/bodyfat in no time

No problem man, we are all here to help as long as you do some reading for yourself beforehand...and that seems to be the case. I'm sure you will love this way of training!

Yes, I read all of DC's stuff I could find and then went through many of the old posts. Trying not to ask too many questions already asked

it sounds like you've just about got it down, but like usmuscle said, you're gonna need the days off between workouts. i too had a hard time going from a 5 day split to a three day, but beleive me, it works and i'm loving every minute of it(even the painful ones)

You guys have me convinced on the day off. But what about the two day off?
What do you think about MWF Sun Tu Th Sat MWF? Will just be taking the one day off and if something comes up unexpected on a training day it won't be a big deal, or if I just don't feel up to it, I'll take the two days then?

Just having some fun with the days off I guess. I do appreciate the comments.

I tell ya something, I appreciate my days off, I thank DC, I thank God because on those mornings when I get up I'm in agony. I'm tired and sore from the workout the day before and having some time to recuperate just really does me some good.

I dont know about you but if I was to increase the frequency of training.... with THIS intensity, no I dont think it would be possible.

Yes, you are better off asking the man about that one. Anytime that you feel like you might wanna change around the bodyparts or days, ask Dante first! Good luck man.

Good Point !! Since I did my first routine about 6 hours ago, guess I don't know the level of pain I will be in later or in the morning.

I feel I took the intensity up good today. And since I did slow negatives on warmup sets too (which as we already discussed I won't do next time), I may not even question working out in the morning, LOL.

And the other thing I like is that I know I will have to take the weight or reps up next time or will have to change the routine. It will be great to beat the first time on the DC workout, which I expect will be easy to do after the recovery.

Trust me the guys here speak the truth, when you get into this program after a few weeks you will look forward to that 2 days off in a row per week, that 3rd workout will tax you for that week if you are putting 110% into each and every workset, remember you grow out of the gym not in the gym...
