I pulled deads yesterday and had a twinge when I finished. Now this morning is is hard to move. It hurts Like I have never had pain before. Not sure if it is muscular-It is in the mid-back but right in the spine area. I took some Ibuprofin and I think I will take it real easy for a week for so. I my go see a chiro-what do you guys think of them? I have never been before.

Deads can be very taxing on your spine going to heavy, stopping at the floor for a second to regroup or rounding your back, I would just keep stretching your back throughout the day so it doesn't get to tight.
I actually do Rack Deads instead of Floor Deads since it is easier on my lower back but I have a very bad lower back...

That's exactly what I was gonna say USMuscle! When I feel like I can do no more w/ good form...slam...rack it up! I wanna be in the sport for a long while not hurt myself using my ego. Go get it checked out man, see if any damage was done. My guess is just a little muscle pull/soreness. Good luck!

Be careful... if you start getting numbness and pain in the glute and legs then you have some sort of nerve interuption either from a buldge disk or inflamation in that area. Make ice your best friend and reduce the swelling. Chiro and massage are great for maintaining your back healthy. Stretch and I crack my own back by laying on the floor and rolling one leg over the other and exhaule. You have to exhaule so you back will loosen up and relax so it crack...don't force it though.
About deads... i go without a belt for my warmups so the actual lower back muscles get stimulated. When I go to the heavy sets I will wear a belt for back support. Form over weight always and keep the back aligned properly. When you exert yourself with a rounded back, you are in risk....or over extend the other way. You need to keep the spine in a natural stable position. Hope this helps you out.

Bro I feel your pain,
I have chronic lower back problems and they came to a head about 6 weeks ago. Not only do I have a bad disk in my lower back, but I tore my lower lat insertion right by the disk. The doc says my days of doing deads are over with, but I am stubborn and I will see about that one. I have not trained back in over 6 weeks now.
If yours feels anything like mine did I could barely get out of bed for a week afterwards. My advice is to avoid the deads for a while and when you do start back to them just start out light and progress back up to your old weights over a month or so period. The bad thing about this kind of injury is that there are no warning signs, bam it just happens out of the blue.
Good luck bro,I do not condone the use of anabolic steroids or any illegal drug, any information discussed is for educational purposes only.

BigP, I think you, SB and myself are all in this bad back thing together, I think we have all pushed our point of pain and we must train as smart as we do hard, like I said to you before I can sneeze and hurt me back, so you are right you just never know when you are in for another couple of weeks of painful training...

I am honestly at the point where I am weighing out whether it is worth doing deads any more or not. It's like I only have a month or so of doing them before I hurt my back and then I have to avoid squats, rows, deads, and other hard core movements for the following month. So I dont know if the good outweighs the bad on these anymore. It sucks ass but I it is an honest evaluation that myself and you guys are going to have to weigh out.I do not condone the use of anabolic steroids or any illegal drug, any information discussed is for educational purposes only.

i joined the chronic back pain club about 7 months ago when i herniated my l5 disc. it bulged out so badly that it was crushing my sciatic nerve causing extreme pain and numbness down the length of my right leg and into my toes. some morning i would have to have help putting my shoes on because it hurt so bad. i had to go though a series of three steroid epidural shots( i just got the third one 3 days ago.) they were extremely painful but well worth it. i feel like a million bucks today. the pain is still there but hardly noticeable most of the time. be careful with back injuries cause they will haunt you forever. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable. I'm unna eat your style, i'm unna eat your style's kids.

heavy hitter, Real sorry to hear that man, I fractured my 2nd Lumbar years ago and still acts up from time to time, and as BigP said, I am done with Deads myself, I had to throw them out for Rack Deads since they are so much easier on my lower back, I am sorry but I had to toss out Squats to due to nagging pain in my lower back...

yea i hear you IH. i cant do deads from the floor anymore either. even if i go lighter i just cant really get it off the ground. rack deads however dont cause any pain if done with good form. honestly i'm feeling tons better after the injections but the anesthesiologist who performed them told me that if i am not near 100 percent better after this last injection he wants to do a different form of epidural where they go in from the side and use x-ray to help get the cortisone even closer to the site of inflamation. hopefully it doesn't come to that as the first three were painful enough. also, surgery is not an option as i am far too young, the doc said no one would even touch me, but honestly i dont think i would do the surgery anyways. i just hope for your sake rugbythug that yours turns out to just be sorness and not somthing more serious. just take it really easy and possibly see the doc if you are qorried that it is something more. better safe than sorryMy style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable. I've found a good one and he's helped me tremendously with my back problems. He's a bb'er so he doesn't have a hard time adjusting my back. I've been to some weak ass chiro's that have actually broken out in a sweat trying to adjust my spine. LOL...Train like a freak, every time.

heavy hitter, when I first fractured my Lumbar I had three different Ortho Dr. wanting to fuse my spine, I just turned 17 and I weighed 321 lbs, no way was I going to have my spine fused at my age. I was lifting weights sort of, but not all the time just for wrestleing.
Well since the Docs scared the shit out of me so I decided to go to see the family Chiro and the first thing he said, "look at your gut, what the hell do you think its doing to your spine", I will never forget those words ever, he took me to a club in Detroit called Vic Tannys and he trained me for 14 months and I lost 131 lbs and was getting very strong, so I have been on this mission ever since.
I still live with bouts of pain here and there but I learn what exercises I can do and cannot...
