I go with 8-10 bags, and I use a brewer, it only takes about 5 minutes.

a gallon is roughly 13 cups of liquid so i would use 12-15 tea bags or so. i heat the water up until just before it boils (when bubbles are starting to form on the bottom of the pot or kettle) let the water sit for a minute then throw the tea bags in. i let it steep for about 5-10 minutes.
if you use boiling water you end up with a rusty yellow colored tea that tastes kind of bitter. if you use less hot water the tea will turn out a bright greenish-yellow color and i find it tastes a lot better.

Good tip Nemo. I only let it barely start a rolling boil, then use it. I will try not even letting it boil, though. DO you find it to be just as potent?
I only use four but i steep it the nite before and then let it sit on the stove all nite (heat off of course)--by morning time its very dark--oh yea thats for about a half gallon

yep, if you are letting it steep for a long time it doesn't seem to affect the potency just the flavor/color
