  • Gaining strength, but also gaining fat.

Guys. I know we dont discuss diets so i'm not looking for diet advice.

Being as i was always a fat kid, when i lost the weight i never wanted to go back to being fat. So everytime i've bulked as soon as i reach a certain point i'll look in the mirror feel disgusted and depressed and start to diet again, basically losing any gains ive made.

Now training the DC way i'm gaining strength every week, weights just keep going up. So i must be gaining muscle mass. But bodyfat is slowly creeping up on me too. Its expected in my case since im endomorphic. I mean the best strength gains are only gonna come if im eating enough to support my growth. So i dont want to limit myself by cutting back. I want to be gaining at the fastest rate possible.

I'm just looking for support or advice. Everytime i reach this point i go back. But i know that if i just stick it out for a couple months that my body is gonna go through a serious growth spurt and its gonna be worth it.

Anyone got any wise words for me?

Nah junk foods a minimum. Once a week maybe at most. I'm a lazy ass, i mean other than training and cardio im sittin on my ass most of the time.
I'm thinking i need to start listening more to my own body. Dantes always saying eat protein, veg and then fill up on carbs till u feel full.

I guess i just plan out exactly what im gonna eat and force it down even if i dont feel like it.

Bro I feel you, I'm the same way. I'm endomorphic and have been every since I was a kid. I was around 290 of fat when I played football in high school and college, and after that vowed to never be fat again. BUT

Stick with the program! If you stick with the added cardio as well as the carb cut offs you MAY still gain SOME fat....but the muscle growth will still be there...and isn't that why your doing it anyway? Go ahead and pack on the size and strength now....you can always diet off that fat, but next time you'll have a whole new armour of muscle that will be underneath it. You might not like the way you look now, but when its all said and done, and you've dieted down with the new muscle...you'll be happy as hell. Keep up the growth!!

              bro

Eating your protein and veggies first, followed by carbs to fill you up is certainly the protocol. But being endomorphic as you are(and as I am myself), we still have to control our carbs to an extent. My advice would be to keep eating allllll the clean protein you can, veggies and everything, and eat carbs at the most important times and limit them otherwise. Obviously post work-out you want carbs, pre workout you want some complex carbs. I usually have oatmeal with breakfast, and do my pre and post workout carbs... but other than that I really try to limit my carb intake. I've noticed that since I started learning more about my carb sensitivity and fooled around with manipulating my carb intakes, I have been able to remain pretty lean but also get stronger and bigger. Also, make sure your only eating GOOD carbs which I'm sure you already know... sometimes it's easy to slip in some sugary stuff without even noticing though. And obviously follow the carb cutoff like you said you've been doing. Just thought I'd share what has been working for me.

Also, try doing 3-4 days of low intensity cardio for 30-45 minutes. If you are already doing that much, keep it up... if not, maybe try bumping it up some. Good luck.

Is it fat or is it that your holding more water, and just bloated.

Remember that. I can completely relate, as I just started a short time ago and my weight has jumped from 290 to 300 in a week, so I already know when I look in the mirror that I am carrying more water right now.

If you feel your getting fat, there nothing wrong with cutting down just a little to tweak the diet for yourself, not so much the protein, but perhaps switch to only low gi carbs during carb/protein meals, or bump the cardio up just a short bit.

And fi your stength gains start to fall or you feel they have slowed down, then bump the food up a bit, and find that happy medium for you.

I have been couting calories for so god damn long, and I finally realized the only times in the past I made great gains was when I only counted my protein and just ate lots of food.

Go by how hungry you are, if you just ate a 20oz steak and your still hungry, fill up on some more veggies, or have a tablespoon of olive oil or penut butter till you fee satisfied.

                Just my thought,

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna listen to my body a bit more. Realise when im full and when im not. My protein intake is 400-450 or there about. So thats all good. Im hoping to sorta play with my carbs and work them around pre and postworkout then work on fats or veggies the other part of the time.

I'm a person who's always lived off very low carbs but alot of people drill into me that i need alot more carbs postworkout. So it kinda adds up here and there.

                    Will work on it. Thanks.

during the winter when im a lazy ass i only eat carbs pre and post workout on workout days and after my cardio in the morning on non workout days. the rest of the day its all meat and veggies. if you are really inactive, like i am in the winter, or carb sensitive this will help keep the fat from accumulating too fast

That is what I am doing right now nemo. I felt I put on BF a bit too quickly, so I am going this route. Except I also include carbs in my first meal a well. So first meal, pre and post workout. 15 mins slow cardio on off days. Everything else is the same...maybe slightly more protein. Has been working great!

oh ya first meal too on workout days. i do moderate cardio 3 times per week, 30 minutes each. not so much for fat loss as to stay healthy

Bump on the water retention thing - by the end of each day my face has gained about 15lbs of water by itself, then by next morning I lose it all again. High Protein diet does thing for sure - right? I couldn't give a shit about abs - I just don't wanna BIG fat gut and a jello face, but look huge in clothes like I'm a bodybuilder.
