It pays to get to know your butcher

If you have freezer space, you can get some pretty good deals if you buy in bulk, even if the store isn't putting a special cut on sale.

Sometimes a guy will even lable your order with a less expensive cut. My experience has been that these guys have a monotonous job and are there to help you if you show them some respect.

I ma naged to get some fully trimmed and cut filet mignons from two full prime tenderloins for only $6 a pound yesterday. Beef's expensive here in NYC, so that's one kickass deal.

That's one thing that I'm left in the dust with. We don't even have a butcher's shop around here! The only 'butchers' around here are the ones working in the back of Bi-Lo and crap.

I'm not even talking about a specialty shop. Just a regular supermarket where they cut there own beef. All you need to do is tell someone yoyu need a special order.

You can order wholesale meat through the net, the only problem is the shipping costs outweigh the savings.

If your shop doesn;t do its own cutting, get in touch with the guy who does the ordering, then find the name of the the purveyor and go from there. You can probably cut out the middle man (the supermarket).

Trust me, you be treated with respect if they think you're looking at half sides of beef for personal consumption, lol!

Clemete, I went as far as dating a butchers daughter at a local super market, but he just wouldn't give in, he does save me huge cuts of meat though, but I did dump his daughter after I found out no deals in the meat department...
