  • finally an end to one annoying question

i just recently realized that it has been over a year since the last time someone asked me if i work out.

i remember being around 200 pounds and busting my ass just for that and it would really discourage me when people asked me if i worked out. i was putting all that effort into it and people couldnt even tell if i worked out or not! those bastards!

i know some of you guys probably get that right now and feel discouraged too but if you keep kicking log book ass and eating like a horse eventually you will get up there in size.

granted when you do people will start asking you other annoying questions like "how much can you bench," "how much do you weigh," "my second cousins friends brother is about your size, or bigger"
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

yea you will get the annoying shit like I do. Twice last night I had people ask me if I take steroids. WTF kind of ballsy ass question is that to ask someone in a nightclub. It actually pisses me off when people ask me shit like that and I am not even what I would consider huge. I am bigger than the average gym goer but not like DC and IH,,, lol.. It just pisses me off when people automatically assume that you are on gear and that it has nothing to do with hard work and dedication,,,,, grrrrrrr...... my rant for the day!!!!
I do not condone the use of anabolic steroids or any illegal drug, any information discussed is for educational purposes only.

This is the one I get a lot. And I mean a LOT. After we go through the usual "You workout every day? How much ya bench? etc" then I get the second cousin's friends brother is bigger than me.

Well golly gee willikers I sure hope I dont have to stand next to him come contest time! He doesn't compete, does he? I cant believe it. You mean there is actually someone out there bigger than...moi? I want pics...I dont believe it.

Actual things I have been told:

"Yeah, you're pretty big. But back when I was in college I knew this guy who used to take steroids. He was REALLY big! Huge!"

-Yeah I heard about them thar steeroids getcha big, ayup.

"My brother used to have arms twice the size of yours"

-Your brother used to have 36" arms? Hardcore, man

"My sisters boyfriend is a bodybuilder. He's like a little bigger than you but ripped. I mean the guy has like 0 bodyfat"

      -Rest in peace.

      And my all time favorite.......

"You know, you're pretty big for your size"

What? WHAT??? What the hell does that mean? I'm big for my size?? Isnt that like saying you're tall for your height? Can I be small for my size? That's a real brain tickler right there.

No shit, I used to get about 15 years ago, "wow you are big", well I took it as I was a fat fuck, now I get, "do you lift some serious weight", or "damn you are big, I wouldn't mess with you", lol, and I must admit I enjoy that much better, now I say thank you and I appreciate the kind words.

For some reason I do not get, "Do you take steroids", I don't know if I should be envious or pissed that I don't get aksed that, I don't know, but I remember when DC said if the average guy doesn't know you are a BBer than you need to take up another hobby.

Its strange when I was growing up and very fat I did not want to stick out at all and be noticed, now that I have a little bit of size, I never want to stick out, I will never understand this, my GF rags on me to wear tank tops in public and I just can not, it just ain't me...

LOL, ok I am a dick for this one, when I hear anyone I mean anyone girl or guy say that they know someone just as big or as strong, I come right out and say, "bullshit, you are full of it, but continue with your story", and usually they don't ever mention it again...

Probably because most people have enough brains or at least self preservation not to ask a 300lb+ man that question.

            I wouldn't.

LOL, I always wondered if that had anything to do with it, and I must admitt I am not one of those quite kind of people, if it is on my mind, I will tell you no problem.

I will never forget what Jason Mueller said once to someone who asked him that very question he said, "well you look like a pedifile, did I ask you if you are fucking little kids", now if that wouldn't shut you up coming from him at 300 I don't know what would. I read that at Anabloic Extreme years ago...

LOL, dude don't get discouraged with comments that the 'average' person makes to you. Joanna Arntz, Jason Arntz's wife, even said that HE gets asked if HE works out. That just goes to show you the stupidity of the common man. I don't get harassed TOO much. I get the steroid accusation every now and then, but usually people just stay outta my way and the comments are usually positive. Most often I get asked where I work out at. Then, you get the 'How much can you lift?' people. I just tell them, 'I can lift a lot of things'. lol. Or the 'how much you bench?'. You should see the looks on their faces when I say, 'I don't'. Of course sometimes I get asked why and am forced to explain why I don't do flat bench press. Trust me, TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS ARGUMENT! I just politely say that I feel there are better chest developers than flat bench press. People get extremely defensive when you talk badly about flat bench, funny that it's only the chest/biceps guys that get mad at this though lol. People have still not caught on to flat bench being not as effective and MUCH more dangerous than incline/decline movements.

If I am in a great mood, and I get asked, "do you lift weights", I say with a straight face, "of course not, I was born this way and to this day everytime my mom sees me she slaps me cause she is still hurting from giving birth to me"...

LMAO! I do the same thing. If someone asks me if I workout, I just say, "Nah, I was born 5'6" and about 220 for no apparent reason. Never lifted a day in my life! GOD BLESS GENETICS!" lol

Occasionally, but not as much as before, I still get "Oh, you work out?" but it is usually from someone who doesn't know anything about exercise and thinks that if you don't look like ronnie coleman you must not workout... Of course taking into account that I started at 130-140 pounds at 6'1" it took a hell of a lot of work to get to where I am now (220), and it will take a lot more work to get where I want!
Someone the other day actually came up to me and said "You look like you would know about this..." and asked me some workout related questions - that felt pretty damn good! Can't wait to see what they say when I am 240... (and not fat like last time I was 240!!)

Yep...I don't remember the last time I wore a tank top or shorts in public.....1993 I think...You just get to the point where you don't really want to attract any attention to yourself and stay pretty much covered up.....
For me I know I'm looking large not when people ask me questions (cos when you get to a certain size the questions stop and folks just stop in their tracks and stare at you like deer in headlights...LOL) but I know I'm big when I'm at the mall and the crowds part like Moses and the Red Sea to let me through...LOL

I still get the "Do you workout?" question, regardless of whether I'm 1 week out from a show or in major off-season mode.

Usually, its asked in a very rude way: basically just screamed at me from across the room, parking lot, etc. I often just ignore the question (I figure if you really would like an answer to that kind of question, you can at least be respectful in how you ask it of a total stranger...)

If they persist, I sometimes act completely dumbfounded:
                          "Workout... What do you mean?..."

                          "Like lift n' stuff..."

"Lift?... Lift what?... I'm not followin' ya..."

<At this point I've got them doing some stupid looking bench press / overhead press kind of motion>

"Ya know - like lift weights n' stuff?..."

"Oh, God, No! That sounds painful!!!"
