  • Leg soreness and workout schedule question

    I've been thinking about this for a few weeks now and the other leg soreness thread prompted me to write this one....
    This question/idea is aimed at DC but I'd like everyone elses opinions too.....
    OK...when I'm blasting and my weights are getting up there I find that my legs feel like they've been run over by a bus for several days after training them....Now on the 3 day split you're gonna have at least one leg workout with only one days rest before you workout again (if leg day falls on Monday or Wednesday that is).
    Now I haven't treid this yet but I'm thinking about taking two days off after every leg workout no matter where it falls and one day off after hitting Upper Body...So on a MWF split it would look something like this

    M-Ch/Delts/Tris/Back

    W-Bis/Legs

    Sat-Ch/D/Tr/Ba

    M-Bi/Legs

    Th-Ch/D/Tr/Ba

    Sat-Bi/Legs

    Tue-Ch/D/Tr/Ba

    Tell me if you've tried this or if it makes sense to you....

    ya i would say that makes sense especially with the amount of weights you use and you will still be hitting that body part twice in a week

      Mobsta...thanks, that's what I'm thinking.Don't get me wrong I get sore from my upper body workouts just not always the debilitating hit by a truck type of soreness that leg day tends to bring...

        ya i know what you mean,, of course im not pushing insane weights like you but legs take more outta me then upper body, havent been hit by a truck yet but i would only imagine that extra day off would help and benefit you in the long run.

          Hey Frigginhuge,

          Since I have been dieting for this show, some days I will just do half a workout...For example if Im doing bis/forearma/legs...I might just do bis/forearms and calves...then come back the next day and hit hams/quads, before taking a day off...If im really beat though, I will just take an extra day off, and come back the next day...Although your idea sounds good to me to...If its upperbody day I might just do Chest/delts/and tris, then come back the next day and hit back width and thickness, sometimes I will include and 3rd exercise just to finish it off...

            is the problem that you are not sufficiently recovering between leg days or are you still feeling drained from the leg training when it comes time to do the upperbody work?
            It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

              I think that can be a good idea if your really feeling down in energy and want to recover.

              I did my chest/delts/tris/back yesterday and i just thank god today was my day off because when i woke up i was tired beyond anything. When i went to take a piss i couldnt even stand still. Had to hold myself up on the wall. I had breakfast and fell asleep on the couch. Just drained.

              Sometimes i think a couple days off after a session would be nice. Listening to your body. Thats how its done. Everyone is different. We can all go by a basic plan but need to tweak it to suit ourselves....... and look at me giving advice to a 300lb giant. Im sorry, dont hurt me.

              p.s side not here, im sweating like hell while drinking my green tea.

                And to think most of us use to train 5-6 days a week....

                FH I don't know what to tell you but I do know that if your leg soreness is stopping you from having a succesfull workout two days after... than you need to listen to your body above anything else. I think the split you laid out looked pretty solid, something you could experiment with and see your gains do.

                    Sounds to me like this fits DC's mantra of the more advanced you become the more time off you need for recovery. I'm new, but it looks good to me.

                      Hope you guys are all having a great 4th of July....I'm using this day to recharge and get myself ready (physically and mentally) for the onslaught that'll start tomorrow at the gym
