  • Argument

I am having a bit of an argument on another site and would like the opinions of the strongest members here (to include DC and Inhuman).

Someone on the site says his buddy shoulder presses 175 lb dumbbells for 8 reps.

Is there anyone on this site that can perform that feat?

Well if he CAN do that, that's an incredible feat. How big is this guy? I don't think even our biggest and strongest members can do anything near that...and we've definitely got some big strong members!

Definitely possible for a 300lber. He would prob. be over a 500lb bencher, too. I'd like to see pics of the monster... Better yet, a video. ;^)

Chris, it's a possibility. I had a friend who never worked out before in his life, he sat on the bench and bp'd 315 like it was a warmup. He just had the leverage and proportion factors on his side.

Sadly, he gave up lifting for drinking.

Just see if he can videotape it for ya? I wouldn't argue with him over the net though, rather pointless.

Damn, that's amazing Jim. Something similar with a guy I went to highschool with though. His name was Torian and he was this tremendously huge black guy. First time he got on bench he maxed out at 300 something I remember. When doing biceps curls, he would pick up the 70s and just sit there adn curl them until he got tired...

Well, let me put it this way, I have seen Ronnie's most recent video and he gets the 160s for ~5 reps. Ronnie is a very strong man for a bodybuilder. Small increments make a huge difference in dumbbells as you all know. I have a hard time believing some bodybuilder is pressing that much more than Ronnie.

Is it possible, yes. Is it more possible this is another internet b.s.er, yep.

I have a bench press specialist friend who has done a RAW (no shirt) 530 at 242 lbs. He has done over 600 with a shirt. I guarantee you he would not come close to 175 lb dumbbells for 8 reps on the shoulder press.

The guy who supposedly can do it is Brent Gunderson.

One more note, I think even the great Kaz would have trouble with that in his prime.

With the exception of Ronnie I can't think of any bodybuider who doesn't struggle somewhat with the 175's doing flat benches so for shoulder presses...I don't think so....

Well I know I am late chimming in, but the last throw I had with DBs for Shoulder Press 140x10x6x5RP, I will be doing the 150s tomorrow and I will go high rep since DC does not want me to have any injuries pre contest, I am not that big and I see that it would not be totally possible for someone to throw 175s for 8 who has some size and some great strength, I know the toughest part of that exercise is getting them up and set, I have to have two spotters one on each DB to go from my knee to my shoulder, then I got it from there, so I see it very possible, just my .02 cents worth...

FH, I have a clip that shows Ronnie doing 200sx12 Flat Bench and only struggles on the last rep just a little at the top...
