  • What are the craziest things you have done in the gym

I am curious to see what kind of stories guys like Frigging Huge , Dante , In- human , and Massive G come up with on this question.[ as well as the many other crazy bastards that hang in the dogg pound]

Me? I have done some crazy stuff with my old workout partner Jason Muller that in our town is still talked about years after the fact. One time Jason and I decide to join this gym[ Kris Dimm trains there] that is out in the ghetto because we heard it was hardcore with 220 pound dumbells and 400 pound weight stacks. We had out grown all of the other gyms in the area so we figured lets crush this one as well. Well we show up and the place is loaded with ex-cons and wanna be thugs .And Jason looks at me and sayes " time to get some respect" and I smile knowing it is back day......We warm up .......and Start with bent rows . After three warm ups, our work set is 495 and I get like 5-6 reps ,then I rack it and say ," drop it " . Jason looks at me like I am crazy and throws off a pair of 45s . I preceeded to do this until I only have 135 on the bar. Jason was pissed because he knew he would have to try to match my effort. Next it was on to reverse grip lat pulldowns. I look at him and say are you warm and he sayes " What the fuck do you think jackoff ? " I quietly stick 400 pounds on the stack and say rest pause time. He looks at me all crazy and sayes " you know that this stack is 400 and not 300 you idiot " and I smile and say " yeah why are you going to try to puss out ? " He looks away with disgust. I strap up and get the most brutal 7 + 5+ 3 ever and follow with partials a static hold and very painful streches.........He is so mad that I am doing this to him he looks like he wants to kill me . The whole time I am egging him on talking shit. Next up, db rows with the 220s for somewhere around 11 reps. Then I grab a 100 and do some one and quarter reps followed by 30 sec neg when I couldn't get any clean reps .Jason was so mad at so point ,I think he beat me by 1 or 2 reps on this one. I say let's finish from deads from the floor. And he snaps "No fucking way......what the fuck are you smoking? " I smile and say ,"your ass, big guy. "He can't even look at me at this point . We warm up . And I say ,"fuck 495 felt so light ,lets do a max set and bump it right up to 675" .He so mad he can't even look at me . I get 6 and he got 3-4 and was dead. He sayes," lets grab a carb drink and get the fuck out of this shit hole." I say Nope ," I want to try 765 ". He laughs sayes "you won't budge it ". I say, "I will bet you dinner asshole" . He sayes," your on". Well , I got 2 and half reps . On the third rep my strap broke and the weight crushed own so hard it sent me flying over the bar crashing into the mirror breaking it.Thinking we gonna to be kicked out of the gym when the manager comes over and sees the broken mirror.Jason looks relieved that the torture is over . Instead the manager said that that was some crazy ass lifting and offered to buy some carbs drinks after we were done if we told what we were taking.LOL! Jason sayes ,"you ready ?" I say ,"one drop set of db pullovers starting with the 200 and a vicious streching session and we can go." He looks at me and gives in at this point ......why you showing off so bad today punkass? I smile and say ,"you are the one that said it was time to get some respect"........

Iabadman, Very nice story, I mean truth, I read some of Jason's workouts at Anabolic Extreme and when I would get done reading I had to go to the gym I was so pumped up.

Ok I have one, right about two weeks ago you know that the USAs are coming up in July and we have quite a few competitors in the gym trying to throw some heavy weight in thier string top tanks to impress people. se we have this guy that likes to let everyone know how much he is pushing when doing Incline DBs, so he was up to 105s for his last set. Well it was time for us to do DB Shoulder Press since DC wanted me to drop Behind the Neck Smythe cause it was bothering my shoulder with only 335, I was training three guys that day who lift pretty heavy, so I had some good spotters, well I started with 100s and did 10, then went to 115s for 10, now this guy was just drinking water and watching the whole time, I decided lets go with 130s did 10, and set those down without dropping them and said, "shit them buck 40s are going down", hoisted those bastards up and did 10x4x3RP with super slow negatives, the competitior came over to me shook my hand and said, "fuck", then one of my clients said, "two weeks the 150s are done". Its a shame that all the heavier DBS are now gone from this gym but after 12 years 155 to 200s have been broken or stolen if you can beleive that, so I just need to work on getting 150x30RP so DC wont get on me for lifting heavy...

      That's what I'm talkin' about!!!

      IABM,

That's some gooooood shit, my friend!!!

I wish I could remember the weights (they weren't that impressive), but some of the craziest stuff I ever did was when I did the old Cybergenics program.
      LEG DAY:

Warm up to a 6-8rep max. Go to positive and negative failure (can't control the descent) with spotters assistance.
Drop immediately about 30% of the weight to do another 6-8, again positive and negative failure.
Drop again to do yet another 6-8, failing on the last negative you can't control on the way down.

Immediately do "jumps," squatting down and jumping back up until you can't jump anymore - NO VERTICAL leap. (Lookin' like a partially paralyzed frog at this point)

Deep knee bends (bodyweight squats) until you can no longer stand up.

THEN, using your arms to pull yourself back up, do assisted BW squats until you can no longer keep from falling to the ground.

FOLLOW with a Maximum effort isometric contraction of the quads and hams for 30-60sec.

REPEAT THE ABOVE FOUR MORE TIMES.

Finish off with 2(two) four stage drop sets EACH for quad (knee extentions) and hams (curls), again postive and negative failure on each stage of the drop set and isometric max vol. contractions after each

Then its on to calves for FIVE dropsets, each with 5 stages. Finishing each w/ a max contraction or a stretch (choice).

Oh, and then we did some abs.

      -----
THE ABOVE was done on a 3 day split, training 6 days / week. Day 1-3 was low carbs, low kcal. Thurs. was the 2nd leg day of the week, after 3 days of semi-starvation. IT WAS BRUTAL.
      -----

Another fun one was loading the leg press up and doing drop sets for calves, going from about 12-14 plates all the way down to about 4 plates. ;^)

      -------
Then there was Rebound training where I'd do 20 sets of 20 reps on the squat...

      GREAT THREAD, man.

What's the word on Jason these days (sorry if that's a bad question)...

      -Randy

WE have thse three wanna be Strongmen assfucks that have an attitude like you would not beleive at maybe 210 lbs and he is the biggest guy, they make noise like we are in a delivery room at the hospital on every 2 rep set with no weight.

Well I had enough and so did the rest of the gym so they sent my ass over to show them how nice it would be to be able to lift some weight without bothering the whole gym, these guys take up two Squat racks two benches and like 8 sets of DBs, so I went to the last open Rack by them and it was time for Rack Deads, now I don't get heavy but I thought I could show them how to maybe lift in peace and quite unless you are dying under a heavy load, I stated with 135 and they were smiling, went to 225x10, 315x8, 405x8, 495x6, 545x6, 585x8, and 610x4. after doing those sets with no screaming or yelling involved, I emptied the bar and walked away to stretch on the chim bar. Now these guys say hi and talk to me now, something huh, well now I feel like bigbadbutt300 or whatever his name is on MM so I better shut up now...

The workout above took place about 8 and half years ago at a body weight of a hard 290 just before my last course of gear that I ever did ended. The plan was to go 6 months clean then jump on and get up to 320 or so and diet down and do some major damage on the national level. Unfortunately ,I was set up and arrested less than six months after that great back workout. I had stayed clean that entire time and was ready to set the world on fire. But my poor judgement made that dream never come about. I take full responsiblity for my actions ,but I will be forever bitter by what happed to me. I miss those days more than you guys will ever know . Those times will always remain special to me.

Something most of you guys don't know, is that I was trained by Dante at this time . He took me from a 228 pound defensive back to 290 in a year and half. And guys he did this for free. He had a newsletter back then .I had wrote him a long letter, not expecting a response telling him who I was and what I was about .He not only got back to me with a very detailed response but he ended up calling me and we became very close friends . He taught me more about training , diet , ect....than I had learned in the whole time I had been training.[ I had been training since I was 10 and had spent lots of time learning my stuff.] He just loves the sport and loves helping people. He is literally the finest man in our sport period. He is not greedy or egotistical . He just likes to help people achieve thier goals and enjoys learning to train and gain more efficiantly. The man taught me so much.......I would be more than happy to take a bullet for him and he knows that. I feel blessed to be part of his board and to call him a friend.

I think it is neat the way his training and diet methods have continued to evolve over the years . It just just goes to show that the mans ego doesn't ruin his ability to change and adapt like so many others.I can't wait to see what the future holds.....Hey Dante , "If you need any lab rats ......can I sign up ? "

Last one and I will shut up and not bore anyone.

With all the talk about how bad Smythe is for Inclines and Declines, my training partner in the last 4 months at that time training with DC had gotten some decent strength on the Smythe I was getting up to 500x15RP, so we decided to go to the Decline Bench next rotation. Man that drive to the gym I was nervous as hell all this talk of the Smythe making you weaker and stabilizers (that damn word again) my stomach was in a knot, ate that damn log book again on the way there. Se we got to the Decline Bench and for the first set I used 225x12, 315x10, 405x10, 455x8, 495x4 and was feeling pretty good, so my partner tell me no fucking around do it, 525x9x4x3RP with a static of 18 seconds, man it felt so damn good and my form was never so good since I was using that Smythe for the last 4 months, oh then did chest stretch with 90s for 60 seconds, yea that was real fun, yea right...

Ya know what the craziest part of that whole thing was?... I was a total natty. Young, dumb and full of cum. LOL.

I did that thing 3 times in total for the total 8 weeks each time. The worst was 1 summer when I was working a job doing building maintenance. I would spend the day blacktopping parking lots, mowing laws, trimming bushes, etc. after training. (I think I worked 12 - 8PM)...

I lost a lot of strength, but I looked damn good. I wish I had pics from those days...
                  -------

Ya know, even harder might have been the shit I was doing when I was in high school getting ready for my Sr. year of football. The strength coach at the time had us training with the weights 3 x / week, full body, doing a total of 96 sets each day! Basically it was 3 sets / exercise, shooting for sets of 8, so about two out of three sets were to failure.

After weights, I would do an hour of agilities (up-downs, receiver patterns, jingle-jangles, yadda, yadda) and a 3 mile run (it was optional, but I thought I needed it). Usually I'd lift from 8 - 11 or so, then do agilities out in the sun from 11:30 - 1PM or so.

I was also on a swim team, so after that, I'd go home, eat and have swim practice for 90 min. in the late afternoon.

Twice a week we'd have passing league. Weekend there were swim meets, too.

In human , "What have you been smoking?'

Your weights would crush Ronnie Coleman himself using Dante's recomended form.......You are scary strong my friend that is why I want to come play with ya.......inspriration my friend!

About Dante's form . He used to be real tough on his negatives and has eased up some since back in the day. One time when we first started training with Dante .Jason Muller was down his way. And decided that he would teach Dante who was boss by catching a workout with him.Big mistake ......Dante crushed and embarassed him. I mean total destruction.......I was shocked . We changed to his tempo and were like 100 pounds weaker on all of the big lifts......but a year later we were two of the strongest guys around period. I was honsetly afraid to workout with the man and I am not afraid of too many things in this world...He is the master......I don't think I ever have the need to get punked like JM did that day......He never got over that !

Im very strong on back stuff, some calf, quad, ham, and shoulder stuff but I sure as hell cant hang with some of the guys on this board with what they are doing. I'm not incredibly strong at all on bicep and chest stuff.
