  • Arm pain while doing bench pressing movements

While doing my chest exersizes (dec barbell press, inc smith press, inc db press) I get this pain in my left arm. First I thought it was on my bicep , then I thought maybe the tricep, but its actually the area between my bi and tri. The pain occurs once I reach the bottom position on the negative. Any feedback for this?

IS IT IN THE BRACHIALIS AREA?

THAT CAN BE A LITLE TENDONITOUS, AND THE NEGATIVE STROKE OF A BENCH PRESS CAN BE A REAL BITCH IF YOU GOT A CASE OF IT.

Thanks for the comment Dirty hairy. SweatMachine yes I believe it is in the brachialis area. Dam my left arm always holds me back, even though Im left handed lol. I get forearm pains sometimes (in my left arm) that keep me from working out (those havent happened as often when I stoped flat benching) and now I have tendonitous fuck....

I went in yesterday to do the chest day yesterday. After dec bench 245x11rp my left arm was in excruciating pain and even my right forearm was hurting a little bit. I guess Im going to have to take a week or two off. How long should I take off? Because I have had forearm problems before and taken a week or two off and come back ok but then the problem comes back, this is the third time that my forearm problem has come back but its the first that its affected the brachialis region in my left arm. Any advice?

sounds like bicep tendonitus. could be caused from heavy squatting, or any number of things. if u do alot of squatting, take a break for a while and i bet it gets better.

Its actually in the brachialis region and it was caused by heavy squats and bench exersizes. I thought it would be best to just take a week or two off of training because I thought training at all would just make it worse. But when I asked a powerlifting friend he told to just raise my reps and train light for a while instead of taking time off, and "work through it". Does that sound like a good idea I just dont want to do further damage but I also dont want to loose the mass I put on.

It's the subscapulais. It's a support muscle in benching and most of the time it is injured during an eccentric contraction. (negative). what I would do is work on stretching the pec. Since subscap is a medial rotator of the humerous, by stretching the pec you will stretch the subscapularis muscle. The pain pattern is identical to what you described. stretch for 30 sec at a time times a day. When you stretch do not allow any pain. If there is pain back it off a bit. If there is pain in a stretch the muscle will guard by contracting causeing more eccentric tears-----

So would it be the same fly stretch as you would do with DC training but maybe a little ligther? How many times a day did you say I think you forgot to put the number on there.

INHUMAN I wrap the thumb and I wear wrist wraps. I try to keep my wrists as straight as possible, which is another reason I wear the wraps.

ELECTRIC, If your wrists start to bend back when benching like Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, you put a hell of a lot of stress on your elbows which will cause Tendonitus, and then even curling will become hard to do with little weight...
