i like straight up and down for most exercises b/c its an easier ROM for me to follow. with reverse grip bp i use the slanted one, but only b/c the straight one was taken.
The Munster, I think I need to change my name to, "In-Smythe", seems as though over at the best board in the world, bb.com, lol they team up on me about how bad this evil piece of equipment is, I love messing with the childrens heads over there.
I do prefer the straight one, but if I only had the 7 degree to use, I will make it work, I like the angled one for Bent Rows mostly...

I have only used the staight up and down one. The gym I work out at has both but only the straight up and down one feels like real weight. The angled one is counterbalanced and practically takes all of the negative out of the movement.
There's a Smythe at both gyms I work out at, and one is almost like lifting air and the second is surprisingly heavy, for an empty bah(new england accent)!
springtime in new england, you by the bay.....

Yea that makes no sense. We have both at my gym, yet the angled one seems like real weight. I still like the straight up n down one better though, easier range of motion.
TooPowerful4u, I noticed when our machines are taken apart for inspection and repair, it seems the counterweight moves a lot easier on the straight Smythe than the 7 degree angle, of course some of the counters have different pulley systems and different bars for the counterweight to slide on...
