Problem with triceps :(

  • Problem with triceps :(

    When I do a side triceps pose, the triceps looks good and in proportion with the other bodyparts, but when I do the rear lat spread, my triceps really looks like nothing. What exercises can I do to improve that area? Or does only comes down to overall mass on the triceps? Thanks.

    Blade, I've always believed that I recieved good rear triceps development from doing bar overhead extensions. So much so that when my arm is flexed (double bicep shot) that the muscle that shows is my rear tricep. Arnold use to do that exercise to get his rear tricep to look good in the bicep shot, his biceps were always his better bodypart (almost overpowering). Some said his triceps were one of his weakest part, but I think the rear head made up for his "weakness". Just look at any of his double or single biceps pics.

    I "believe" the same as Dante does with stretching of the triceps "should be" overhead. Doing DC's Program should take care of all the inner and rear triceps you need. But you may want to include overhead tricep work when you run out of "more compound like" movements. Your better off though doing his more mass building movements such as reverse presses on Smyth and close grip Smyth. Those movements DO hit every inch of your triceps hard. But, if you want to try it, stick with Dante's principles as you would normally, higher reps for triceps work. Form over weights.

    Genetics: Some people say that genetics is your problem. I say that if you think to yourself that it is, then your casting negativity thinking which is more likely to stop your gains in any area. Any area can be improved with diligence and smart "DC" training.

      JP, I like all of your post, but I am going to do something I ever do, I will disagree with you on the genetic point.

      Genetics as you know make up the length of your muscle bellies and tendon attachments, so you have what you have, you can still make your muscles grow in circumfrence.

      Now I do beleive that younger people will opt for the negativity of a lagging part being genetics, when it is actually no experience in the gym or not going hard enough on those exercises for that bodypart.

      Just my worthless .02 cents...

        blade, ill tell you what worked well for me , lying skullcrushers and barbell kickbacks, i do the kickbacks lying down just like the skullcrushers expect i dont bring it my forehead, i bring the bar down to the crown of my head and kick it back away from me,, you cant go very heavy or its bye bye joints,, but try it the burn is excruciating (sp?) but i feel these contributed alot to the development of my tris

          We do agree though.........................you should still try and develop whatever area or aspect of whatever bodypart you feel is lacking..................If they think too much of genetics being a limitation then it may be genetics (in the mind) as their true limitation..........then there's always the argument (here we go) that a muscle contracts all at once (which some people state as the reason that you can't develop one aspect of any certain muscle)(either all or none) I believe that to a point, BUT, I Truly believe, that certain exercises at certain angles CAN stress one area of a muscle more (along with the whole area).

          Let's start talking politics,......kidding.:showoff:

            JP, Ok you bantam weight you, I will go out on limb here, if it will hold me.

            After training for the last 25 years, I belive in indirect growth affect, so with heavy ass weights and proper form with compound movements, I think that every muscle will get worked in a certain area. I just don't beleive in doing 3 different exercises for Delts since you have 3 heads.

            Ok and along with your thing about muscle contracting all at once to add is that the higher intensity you use the more motor neurons are fireing, and in turn the more you will get out of that exercise.

            Ok the limb is breaking...

                  Aight thanks brothers. I tried the reverse bench on the smythe this week and that shit feld FUCKED up. That did absolutely not feel OK. Its like the same pain you get when you do curls with a straight bar instead of an EZ, but then 10 times worse.

                    Blade, Those damn Reverses are a bitch, I don't do much weight on those either.

                    I keep my thumb and two first fingers on the bar only, bar on a angle across my palm, hands 4" wider than shoulders, and I bring the bar just below my nips. Most important thing is to have the bench on your lower and upper back only, your ass is hanging off, then you can push up on your feet to bring your pelvic up then you can pinch your shoulder blades to the bench, oh yes then they go good...
