Here's my views on dedication:
TRAINING: {Love and/or Necessary Evil}; On a personal note, I happen to love working out! I somewhat enjoy the pain at times. I don't believe pain is necessary for someone to be gaining strength/size, but sometimes we might ("feel") that we did the job right when we experience it. Sort of a mental reassurance.
When I workout I feel better about myself, physically, mentally and spiritually. Setting goals, reaching goals and exceeding goals can make one feel a great sense of self-accomplishment. It's also a very real component of Dante's training. (Remember what you are supposed to do to that logbook).
Then there's the flipside of training. The days you may feel like that sun is shining brightly and you can stand some color.
THEN THE VOICES START
"Man I know that gym is going to be a hotbox today" or " I been training really hard and a break won't hurt me! " I'm looking good and don't need the gym today". etc, etc.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE VOICES
These are the times that dedication should kick you right in ass. You have to stop right then and there and say "NO, IF I WANT TO BE BETTER, THEN I HAVE TO GO!! NOTHING IS GOING TO STOP ME!!
You know when you really need a break as opposed to kinda, sorta, or maybe needing a break. There are guidelines that schedule a "break" for us. You know the difference.
Now hopefully we are at the gym. We have our buddy (the logbook) with us and we know what we have to do. During the workout there are times that the pain can be excruciating. We could stop here since we already either added the extra weight or achieved our intended repetitions. But we don't stop. Do we?
There are also times we fear that we're not going to be able to get back up from the bottom. That's why they make Smythe machines, racks, cages and spotters!
EATING: Some find this the hardest part and at times it can be. I joked before about keeping the food down. I wasn't kidding!
I've had a few times that I actually believed it was going to come back up on me. That may happen, just don't part your lips. I'm not kidding.
I love to eat. I just didn't know what or how to eat.
I didn't know the first thing about it until Dante set me straight!
(I'm trying my hardest to be vague about everything DC).
Most of us know what we are supposed to do about eating. It takes the same commitment as training does, in my opinion. If we look at it that way, we should be doing well.
"Let's do lunch"
I always believed that I was dedicated. Always having a overwhelming desire to be larger and more muscular(or better overall shape) is only the beginning of dedication. Training and Eating must follow if one wants to reach their desired results.
As Bruce Lee once said, "Life is a journey, not a destination!"
See you at the gym or the kitchen!
