  • Bringing it back

I had changed my training focus a few months back to MMA. I still trained events, but now with more of a conditioning focus rather than all out strength. I had dropped my weight down considerably for a fight that was cancelled. I recently started a comeback into strongman, but unfortunately tore my lat. I still decided to go ahead and compete in the Pittsburgh strongest man last weekend even with the injury and ended up breaking my toe on the keg carry. Still I ended up with 4th place and had a great weekend in Pitt.

So, now I'm back trying to get back into the swing of things with a broken toe and a minor lat tear. I'm currently weighing between 190-195. My goal is to slowly bring my lifts back up while maintaining my current level of conditioning. I'm also still training MMA, although not as dilligently as before, because I may have the opportunity to fight at the beginning of the year.

Hopefully I can get some feedback from anyone who has successfully trained both sports. If not, I'll be doing my best and at least having fun.

    Event Training

    1) Log Clean and Press:
(105 x 3)10; Did 3 reps every minute on the minute. Full clean and press every time.

    2) Zercher Yoke:
    (300x50ft)2
    (340x50ft)2
    (380x50ft)2

    3) Farmers Walk:
    (185x50ft)4

Started off nice and light and trying to build back up some work capacity. Felt really awesome to be training again.

      Monday

      Warm Up and Neck Work

      1) Deadlifts:
      225x5
      245x4
      265x3
      285x2
      225x10

      2A) Neutral Grip Pullups: (+35x3)3
      2B) Dips: (+70x6)3
      2C) Walking BB Lunges: (95x12 per leg)3

      3) KB Swings: (20kg x 20seconds on/40 seconds off)10 min

The first set of pullups aggravated my lat a bit, but by the end everything felt like it was coming together. It's been a long time since I've done walking lunges with a barbell and it definitely lit me up.

                Saturday

Ran a 5K fundraiser with my oldest daughter for school. Not the most pleasant thing to do on a broken toe, but she had fun.

Didn't get to a computer last week and couldn't get the training posted, so I'll just pick up where I left off.

                              2) Yoke Walk:
                              (460x50ft)2
