  • Beginner SM contest in North Carolina

    This is the perfect strongman contest for beginners. The Strongest Man at the Y will be held Sept 25, 2010 at the Salisbury, NC YMCA. Events:

    -short bus pull
    -Atlas stones (180lb, 235, 250)
    -tire flip (600lb tire)- if you can DL 225lb then you can turn this tire over!
    -farmer's walk (about 120lb per hand)
    -Fingal Fingers

    Weight classes:

    under 175
    176-210
    211-250
    251 & up

    There will be 4 open practice days before the contest- Sept 15, 16, 21, & 23. All will be at the Salisbury Y and will be in the late afternoon.

        Strongman is a fun sport and I am sure that you will not embarrass yourself.

            Yea I'm definitely competing, I guess I'm just nervous about a few of the implements
            and I got your PM Tamoan, I just don't have enough posts to reply!
            But I do go to UNCC and am in my 3rd year. And I did get an entry form from Mr. Seagle

              Glad you're competing! I'm going to plan to be at the Sept 16 practice. Which events are you concerned about?

                the fingers and the stones, i work out at elite fitness in huntersville so I have access to the equipment just a little worried about technique. Hey would you mind taking a look at my split and telling me if it looks ok?
                Mon: Pressing
                Wed: Lower Body(Deadlifts)
                Thurs: Pulling
                Fri:Events

                  Looks pretty good, but I'd suggest cutting back some on gym lifts and doing events 2x/week since you have access to everything. Elite is a great gym, I've trained with Corey a few times, he's taught me a lot.

                    yea I think I've heard of him, and I'll take your advice and do events on Tuesday and drop the Thursday workout because pulling is my strongest movement.

                            The forecast for tomorrow is sunny and warm. Weigh in begins at 9am, contest starts at 11am. You guys traveling have a safe trip! I'll be the guy in the Vibram Five Fingers, see you there.
