  • Bruising?

    Hi all,
I'm about 2 weeks away from my first show and have big yucky bruises all over my body. I've got an especially large one on both knees from then knocking together when I sleep on my side. I've also got 'em on my hips where the hip bone protrudes, and can't remember running into anything and I do sleep on a nice, soft bed. Has anyone run into this problem/have suggestions on something to prevent it? I tried a pillow between my knees but it only stays there for a little while before I roll over and then the bruising happens again. Thanks,
    RR

    RR,

We need to put more vit. K in your diet. Plus, the motocross isn't helping...

Take some vitamin b....I would use both a regular b-vitamin complex and injectable b-12.

I use a liquid vitamin supplement from my MD...he is a holistic practitioner and is very much up to speed on nutrition and supplementation. The product I get from him is made from young barley grass. As for vit b content , here it goes.

these are % of the RDA
      B1 400%
      b2 250%
      Niacin 100%
      B6 250%
      folic acid 400%
      B12 1667% (that is not a typo-1667%
      Biotin 40%
      B5 100%

The name of this supplement is " Daily Complete"

has 211 vitamins, minerals, EFA, herbs, and homeopathic products.

You can see the RDA for b-12 is very, very, low. The b-vits will help prevent bruising.
With my work I am always being hit by stuff, running into stuff, etc....
      I never get any bruises.
B vits may help you out.

The vit K that Randy mentioned will help also....my supplement has 100% RDA of vit K.

          Thanks!

I'll give the vit. K a try; my b-complex has 250% of the RDA of b-12 so maybe I'll up that one specifically. I just noticed some big bruises on my forarms, too, so I need to nuke this before I look like I went to war on stage...and I'll try and be more careful at the motorcross !

            Hey RR-
Just a quickie on B-12. Most people prefer the injectable, but the oral B-12 is just as good.
The original studies done years ago used inj b-12 because bioavailability was thought to be an issue. Turns out it really is not, we assimilate b-12 orally just fine. The inj may be slightly better, but it is really splitting hairs according some of the lit. I have read over the years.

Seems like I heard that vitamin C helps with this. Smokers are more prone to bruising than non-smokers and smoking reduces vitamin C levels.... no?? I can't remember but I swear this is what I heard along time ago. Don't know if this is accurate or not. So, I am not answering her question as much as I am asking a question.

                Anyone?

                  Skip,
Smoking reduces Vit. C levels, and the general overall antioxidant status, too. Even if you supplement with Vit. C, the levels that are found in the blood are lower than what's found in nonsmokers (with up to a gram of vit.C). I'll keep away from the smoking! I've been taking the Vit. K and increased my B-complex for three days now and have no new bruises to report!
