  • 2015 RPS Christmas Carnage

After a busy weekend competing for the Banotai family I finally got a minute to sit down and write this thread. Insane meet with 210 lifters over 4 sessions in 2 days. Gene and Ame did great as always.

Jess competed Saturday and did phenomenal. She has competed more frequently recently than I have having done a number of CrossFit competitions and powerlifting meets. I give her all the credit in the world because for someone who only transitioned to lifting from running 3 years ago she has made consistent progress and is EXTREMELY mentally tough… probably more so than me.

She ended the day with a 275 (10lb PR) squat, 140 (5lb PR bench) and a 280 deadlift for a PR total. That said, her biggest accomplishment was her 305 missed deadlift. As you see in the video she fought with her whole body shaking just short of lockout for almost 7 seconds and never quit. I am not sure I could have fought so hard so long…

I competed yesterday and went in with a very specific plan following a great training cycle. Easy openers, 5lb PR seconds and 500/400/600 3rd attempts. I have specifically been chasing the 600 deadlift for quite some time and only recently made the progress to make 500 and 400 reachable. But I did not want to get hung up on the numbers and miss PR's.

I weighed in at 227.5 and competed in the 242's. I don't care what I weigh. I am not chasing an all time world record. I care about being at my best.

    Squat
    435 easy
460 easier than I thought was going to go 485 to go for a bigger total they convinced me otherwise
500 miss came forward on my toes a hair and just couldn't recover

    Bench
    360 easy
385 3 greens. Harder than I would have liked
400 so much ammonia I couldn't see my hand off guy. I cracked my elbows to descend and knew instantly I was going to smoke it. 3 greens

    Deadlift
    540 easy
    570 still easy
600 owned it before I even stepped on the platform. I bet I could've doubled it.

    8/9. 4 meet PR's. including a 48lb bench and 35lb deadlift.

Thank you to everyone who texted, messaged and followed along.

Onward and upward. 2016 Powerpalooza April 16-17. 525/425/650/1600??

Very proud of you 2. Was talking (bragging) about you guys and your lifts on break at work today. Found out that fat plumbers could care less. Lol. But, I was still grinning in pride as I told them anyway. 1,600 is a big #. No doubt you'll get it.

                Congrats to you both!!!

1605 would be a Pro Total which is the RPS version of Elite. I could drop down to 220 and it is 1550 but I would rather be bigger and stronger.

RPS has Raw Modern which allows sleeves or wraps and Raw Classic which allows nothing and what we competed in. I gave thought to going to modern and using wraps but I just haven't convinced myself there is any necessity or point to it. I feel plenty healthy in my knees and wear my sleeves training and when warming up at the meets.

Wow! Impressive numbers! Great job, both of you. You were right, you smoked that 400 pound bench, and that 600 pound pull looked like an opener! Nice!
