meet week question for Robb,Sammi, Grey etc

  • meet week question for Robb,Sammi, Grey etc

    April 6th im competing in the Hawaii State Meet (USPA)

    heres my questions:
    1) i bench on mondays, so if i deload the week of the meet that will be almost 2 weeks without benching...i planned to hit a quick bench workout either tomorrow or monday, ? yes or no??


    2) other than monday i planned to stretch/foam roll and do some very easy cardio probably tue/wed and take off thur/fri. i have a hard time skippin gthe gym for more than 2 days

    3) im cutting to the 181's (im normally around 195-198lbs) doing 15 BB contests im used to manipulating my weight etc, ive managed to drop the weight and lose virtually zero strength however, after i weigh in i will definitely be refeeding big time...any favorite refeed foods??

    i was thinking chugging pedilyte cut with water and creatine/sea salt/carb powder and then my wifes lasagna (its easy for me to eat alot of it and sits in my stomach pretty good) and maybe a box of poptarts before i hit the rack.

    4) meet day snacks?

    5) you guys use ibuprofen or anything like that during the meet or the next few days? (last meet i felt like i got hit by a bus the next day....)

    Yes, but I wouldn't go too heavy. Maybe work up to your opener and that's it.

    Sounds like you know what you need more that I do.

    4) meet day snacks?
    I am a fan of: Snickers bars, trail mix with extra M&Ms, bananas, granola bars, and make sure to eat protein too

    Maybe not during the meet (unless you need them then), but NSAIDs are pretty much a dietary staple for me now.

        Glad you asked this...I had a few of these myself.

        This week of training, if I normally squat on Monday (my first lifting day of the week), how heavy would you go? Up to your opener? What would your sets/reps look like?

          Let's say my opener was 575 with knee wraps. I would probably go:
          5 x 135
          3 x 225
          2 x 315
          1 x 405 add wraps
          1 x 475
          1 x 525
          1 x 575 (or probably even stop at 475 or 525)

          And then nothing else.

            When you say "nothing else." Do you mean, no more squatting or no more work period. So no accessory quad, ham or calf stuff?
            I think for me, it is weird not trying to hit your numbers the week before..I need that reassurance I guess. Anyone else have that? But since I my very first meet is 7 days away, I know nothing.

                Aaaaaaabsolutely nothing else. Well, maybe light cardio or something. The most important thing of all the week before is REST REST REST. You will NOT get any stronger the week (or even two weeks) before, all you can do is fuck it up.

                    My $0.02 since I am always cutting it seems

                    heres my questions:
                    1) I started taking a full 10 days off, almost, Monday before the meet, each lift 50% for a set of ten, stretch and go


                    2) Tough titties stay the fuck out

                    3) How Long before the meet is weigh ins, your ideas are good, chocolate milk is good to

                    4) carbs, sodium, fat

                    5) I take 1000mg before and maybe some before bed but the mental burnout can't be avoided for me.

                        We typically train up to one week out then shut everything down.

                        So the Saturday before the meet (7-8 days) we will work to a single with anywhere between the last warm up to the opener. My geared lifters will be much closer to their last warm up than opener and my raw lifters will be a little closer to their opener.

                        Sunday before the meet we do the same thing for bench

                        The previous Tuesday(11-12 days) we do the same for deadlift

                        On all these days the only assistance might be a couple sets of abs, rows or nothing

                        I let a couple people go in on tuesday to do pulldowns and pressdowns with about 50% but most people I make take the entire week off to rest but making sure to stretch and stuff or you will get very stiff.

                        I am not the best person to ask about meet day food as my body does not tolerate food very well on meet day so I will try to get some RTD Syntha 6 or Muscle Milk type stuff and maybe some peanuts
