  • 370 lbs Bench & 630 lbs Deadlift Raw @ 218 lbs

I haven't done a powerlifting meet since 2007, but this one was local and the entry fee was reasonable so I figured 'why not'...

Were you using much footdrive for your bench?

I see your deadlift belt is higher than I ever wore one - do you have trouble getting to the bar if you have the belt lower? I seem to not be able to wear a belt comfortably when lifting, will have to try it the way I see you doing it . . .

I see you're in Charlotte - are you going to do or have ever done Battle at the Border? There's an APF meet in Rock Hill this September, think the entry fee is like 60 something . . .

but I digress - those are some strong lifts Shakes, congrats!!

Tom, I thought you would have had a much higher deadlift?

Overtraining should be one of the lowest concerns. You should focus on optimal training.

I normally incline press and rarely flat bench, so my technique is not very good (don't think I am getting any leg drive).

The higher belt does seem to make it easier to get to the bar - you might want to give it a try.

Strongman is my thing but this meet was only $15 and I didn't need a singlet so I figured that it would be fun.

Nice Job Tom! Both lifts looked easy! Where those your 3rd attempts? Looked like you could have hit higher numbers?

The bench was my second but I over-shot the 3rd, and the deadlift was my third. I think that I could have pulled a bit more but it gave me an even 1,000 lbs total which I figured was a good number.
