  • first 500lb bench

well I finally pushed 500 today. No shirt, wraps or anything like that...just me and the bar. I'm not really a powerlifter, but I do enjoy lifting heavy. I wish I'd taken a video of it, but it would have been a legal lift for sure. Hard to find real powerlifters around the military, but I do my best.

Looking forward to trying for more next week. Just wanted to share!

Thanks for this forum and all the great information here!

    Edit, I'm about 280-290lbs right now...about 250 in my avatar. 6'3"

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

nice lift, get a video next time! Did you pause it, or touch and go? Not that it really matters with that kind of weight, just wondering.

it was touch and go, but it wasn't a bounce off my chest either! Did 315 for 13 reps afterward. (not those wimpy half reps either, full extension and touching chest of my entirely too long arms.

I call BS without video evidence! There is no way someone consuming army rations can bench 500, LOL.
                Heavy squats fix everything.

No idea who Andy is, Skip.

I would have posted video if I thought I was actually going to attempt that weight for the first time. It was more of a spur of the moment thing. I've been noticing that I haven't been going up fast enough on my weights for most of my lifts since back on DC. I need to move up in weight in larger chunks. I have been finding my reps are going through the roof when I only go up 10lbs or so.

I think muscle memory is taking over or something. I haven't been lifting heavy in about a year, but my strength is coming back FAST...really happy and pleasantly surprised by it.

Oh, and army rations have come a long way....its been a LONG time since I've actually had to eat an MRE. I'm a pilot for the army, and they baby us pretty good lol
