    900 lb Bench

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check this out...a big dude named Gene Rychale jr , a SHW powerlifter, set a new world record on Nov 16th 2003 at the 2003 IPA nationals in Harrisburg PA. He weighed 367 at the meet.
And he reverse gripped 900 pounds!!!!!!!
I am posting the link where you can see the video...sometimes it works, sometimes not. When you click the link and the new page comes up, give it a second and then click on the big guy with the flame hat. Enjoy!

Man...that is just incredible. I can't believe a human can even put that kind of stress on the joints and such....these guys are unbelievable.

I would love to see what Kaz could do in todays world...I think he hit about 660 or so in the early eighties.

The guy in the video is strong and all but not very impressive appearance wise. That was just a crazy amount of weight for a bench press.

how many have done the 7oo raw? i think it is just Ardici and Mendleson. Mendelson may reset the raw record to over 800 soon.

gene rychlak isn't a nice guy. I've talked to just about all the big benchers in america, and gene is one of them that doesn't try to interact with his fans. Hes a big bencher, but as far as more important things his stomach sticks out more in public than his bench. Sorry

Whats more impressive to me is someone who is relatively in good shape (not necessarilly ripped or anything) who can bench 500 plus or 600lbs naturally RAW. Any morbily obese person who trained is capable of putting up some huge numbers. Scot Mendelson is the true champion when this is all over. The one with the wife and kids and a buisness (FIT) who is socially accepted other than for what he can lift. I respect him in the sense he is about to lift 1,000lbs, although the shirt can't lift 1,000lbs without the person and same vice versa. He couldn't lift the weight without the shirt. I own a shirt, and I've lifted with it, but I wont fool myself or others telling them that I can lift what I lift with my shirt. Most people can't even understand the concept of a bench shirt, so autimatically assume all of the power is coming from the lifter, and not the shirt.

                        i disagree there HULKARMS
when i was very competitive in the APF and WPC in the last few years, gene helped me out tremendously, as well as a few others in the sport, gene is one of the best guys i have ever met in powerlifting, will literally let u use his bench shirt if u need to. so i really dont like when people talk shit when they have no clue.

as far as the other post, so now to be a world champion we need to be accepted by our peers? and mendelson will come out on top cuz he has this and a family, who gives a fuck who has what, gene holds the HIGHEST bench EVER, has done 1050 in training more that 13 times since hitting 965.
mendelson while a great bencher, does not have the number anymore and i wish people would get off his nuts. hes not the best, dont call yourself the best when ure not. as far as any MORBIDLY obese person benching big weights, u need to get a clue. yea they have a better advantage, but cummon, ure nothing but an obvious wanna be/ never has been.
                        go take up ballet

its a shame people degrade the top names in the sport because of personal prefferences

future please take it from here

Well, if morbidly obese won the prize there is a guy in the ADFPA that is about 500 lbs. He won a jabba the hut look alike contest last year I think. Strong? I suppose but not in forumla sense. Good bencher? No way. Can barely do his own bodyweight. Now if you are talking about "Mean" Gene being a fatty? well yeah he is on the smooth side but he also has triceps the size of most mens legs. Sure I hate his hats and sunglasses but he is the best right now AND the most consistent which is VERY VERY hard to do in powerlifting. Especially in a lift like benching where its a 50/50 shot. These guys are pros. This is there thing much like a 100 meter sprinter. Maybe Gene didnt meet what you had hoped...maybe you caught him at a bad moment...maybe you need to cut him some slack. Do you have any idea the stupid things I personally have said and done? I can be the nicest guy and turn around and do some of the dumbest things. And I can also spend time misjudging people because I personally have an assumption of how they MIGHT be. The bottom line is Gene, Scott, ME (aka Shawn) and umm Freak ( who does have a real name) are people that lift AND also have success and failures in our personal lives. LETS KEEP THAT IN THEIR PROPER PERSPECTIVES.

FRK and I am big fans of raw training as well. Hell, most every powerlifter is.
