  • RS' Zombie Apocalypse Training™ journal

I haven't logged here for a few years, so thought I'd start a new one since I usually pop in to peoples journal on here now and then.

Training for me right now is solely for fun/stress relief. I don't take it that seriously. I built a garage gym last year and absolutely love it. It just has the basics equipmentwise (incline bench, power stands with half rack, various bars, weights, some kettlebells, etc) but everything is the absolute highest quality you can get. (Ivanko, Eleiko, Zhang Kong, Watson Gym Equipment, etc.) Outside of training I don't really think about training/read anything article, blogwise, etc. Haven't for a long time. I might make the odd exception if something comes up in my fb feed that sparks my interest, but pretty much no. I do check this board and another about twice a day, but that's about it.

No actual routine, maybe some slight semblence of structure in the back of my mind, but mainly going from feel and basing workouts around standing presses, cleans, muscle snatches, kettlebell swings and pullups. I do a lot of HIIT work on the heavy bag and BOB (I trained Muay Thai in the late 90s for a couple of years so nice to get back into that) and also the usual sprints, hill sprints, etc.

Diet/suppwise, I've been eating pretty similar to IF/Warrior diet (just depends on the day.) Most days I'll be lucky to get 100g protein. Calories most days are really low but I throw in a couple big cheat meals a week. Supps are probably nothing compared to most of you. Just a a-z multivit, extra vit c and recently a natty test booster (Pharmafreak Test Freak) because I got it free from a friend who is sponsored by them. (I actually like it and will probably buy it when I run out)

^ Random Military Press video from Feb, up to 115kg/253lbs for 3. I've done 120k for 3 and 115 for 4 or 5, but this is the best I have on video.

Hey! Sweet to see you start a journal!

I like the. Reminds of how badass/hard stoping on the pins is for overhead work. I'm gonna have to work that in more.

Last year seems like a few years to you already? Someone's getting old.

Thanks. I really like those. Obviously there's a bottom start element to standing presses no matter how you do them, but I really like the bottom dead start on seated and high inclines too.

It's not quite 'Angel of the City' (Cobra soundtrack) level, but it's a damn good song.

Short but tough one to get the journal kicked off.

                Muscle Snatches -
5 sets up to 100kg for a triple

                WOD -

21-15-9 on 60kg Muscle Snatches and 2.7 pood (44kg) Russian KB Swings. Time was 7:09, it's hard to know how that compares since I 'invented' this WOD on the spot, but I was happy just to get through it in this heat.

                      DDG!

Just a fun session today in the heat. Went by feel as usual, pretty hard on the strict press, medium weights/intensity on everything else.
                      Strict Press -
                      bar X 20, 60kg X 8, 80kg X 7, 100kg X 7, 80kg X 15
                      Muscle Clean -
                      60kg X 10, 80kg X 15
                      American/Crossfit KB Swings -
                      44kger X 2 sets X 15
                      Dips -
                      2 sets X 15
                      Curls -
                      30kg X a lot

The company I sell my shirts through is running a 40% off sale from 6PM PST til midnight. The designs are printed on [US made] American Apparel tees/tanks/hoodies and that is cheaper than plain shirts on the AA site.

Check out the 'Austin's Hit Squad' shirt, dedicated to a little boy who passed from cancer recently. All my commission from the sale of that shirt will be sent to Relentless Detroit and used to help children with cancer. (Link is in my sig.) I've done a lot of work for RD, great people. I got involved through knowing TommyW who some of you may remember used to post here.

High Inclines, medium grip paused -

                          Muscle cleans -
                          warm up with 60
                          90kg X 20

                          American/CF/Overhead KB Swings -

                            Hey Chris-

Thinking of using high incline DB presses for my main pressing exercise (chest) on my high volume pump day...I figure new angle, extra shoulder work, and still nails the crap outta the upper pecs. As the resident pressing coniseur any thoughts?

                              Haha. Well, I agree.

I think people tend to avoid steeper inclines just out of ego reasons more than anything. Poundage is closer to shoulder press...
