  • Lagging Bodypart

When one has a lagging bodypart, what is the best way going about bringing "up" that lagging bodypart?

Heres why I ask...For about 3 years, I trained legs maybe once a month, basically because I was a puss. "Back" then, I would focus on the upper body and it has created a difference in my body. I think Ive brought them up considerably, but they still lag a little bit. I used to do them on Fridays, but have switched them to Tuesday, to give me a little more focus on them at the beginning of the week, instead of the end. Should I just "go heavy" and quit worrying about it or should I hit them twice a week? Any advice?

Sure, hit them twice a week. I always abuse the lagging body parts more often.

Change your routine every so often as well. It adds a shock factor that will help spark growth.

Personally I only like hitting each bodypart once a week. I find myself overtraining if I do more then that. However everyone is different. Make sure that you are doing legs at the beginning of your week of training like you have switched it too. And use compound exercises such as squats, leg press, stiff legged deadlifts and so on. These exercises will help you get the mass you are looking for. Once you get them to the size you want then you can worry about the other exercises.

Those are the exercises I use...might throw in a hack squat now and then, but basically that sums up my leg routine. Ah, just more patience is what I need, eh? :kick:

Only problem I have with training legs is that it's hell on the knees and knee injuries don't recover too well.

Powerlifting is an awsome way to add mass to your legs and upper body. By alternating powerlifting routines and BB'ong routines you can thick mass and at the same time shpe the muscle.
What has worked for me is to Powerlift for a minimum of 15 weeks. The swith to more BB type training. This also go very well with the BUlk cycle /cutting cycle approach many people like to take either for competition or for just looking good for the summer. By alternating these two training approaches you also keep your head fresh and dont get board or stagnant.

I was thinking about doing something like this just to see what happens. You know...that whole trial and error thing:showoff:

Im assuming with what you described, the bulk cycle would be used in conjunction with the powerlifting routine and the cutting cycle to be used with the BB type training? If so, that makes sense to me and I never really even thought about that approach. tks...

You must be the old one of the bunch, eh :kick:

Actually I dont have any knee problems (knock on wood) to report. I get a little soreness once I start upping the poundage throughout the workout, but its usually something I can work through but doesnt bother me at any other time.

slide - try some of the ideas that the others have mentioned and see if you get good results.

if not, i would do legs just one day a week, but you have to work them so you have a hard time walking out of the gym. all sets are done to failure.

I've got a few leg workouts if ya need them.
