  • Fruit in diet and client progress

I have a few clients currently using fruit as a staple in their diet.

One client has only been on the diet for a little over 2 weeks and has gone from 219 to 213, slowly and consistently. He was on a different diet for quite a few months which involved more weight training, much more cardio and about 500 calories less per day.

He is dropping so consistently that we just raised his caloric intake another 400 calories or so and still have not started even one minute of cardio.

Oh, he is also rarely if ever hungry.

Yes, it has only been 2 weeks but it is working like charm.

Just thought I would throw this out there as we have been talking about fruit and dropping bodyfat during the last couple weeks.

I'm the client that Skip is talking about and I just wanted to thank Skip again for helping me. Yes, I'm never hungry and I have energy all the time. It's weird dropping weight without doing any cardio as of yet.

            About the fruit:
I'm one of those guys that has been overweight there whole lives. In high school I played football and got in decent shape during that. I never really ate a lot of junk food until I went to University and was just one of those kids that ate too much. Went to school and ate like shit. I think that I'm one of those people that are carb sensitive.

Its funny to be eating fruit when almost everything you read is about limiting carbs / fruits.

I am probably one of the only people in the world to say this but I hate fruit

My reasoning is it can be due to mantaining low glycogen levels through the day (low carbs) in order to be able to satisfy hunger with fruits, is the diet on those clients low in carbs or calories that you are able to use fruits as a staple in your diet??

It depends on what you call "low". I don't consider the calories or carbs low, no.

As an example, I have more than just Iamcanman using fruit as a part of their carb totals. Some are as high as 50-60g or more carbs per meal and some are lower, it just depends. I woulld have to check but I think we just bumped up from 2300 calories to 2700 calories or so - without cardio - as he was dropping too quickly.

I have one guy that we have had to bump his carbs higher because his metabolism was being supressed to the point that no weight was dropping off. As soon as we found the higher level of carbs, the weight started dropping off immediately and that is while cutting DOWN on cardio.

For those that don't know, I am NOT a cardio fan in the sense that I don't like to RELY on it. I prefer to use it as a tool to manipulate the metabolism when a plateau arises. Cardio might be put in for 3 or 4 sessions and then taken out for 2 weeks. The cardio use is in response to what is happening (REactive) with the body. It is not a staple that the body comes to rely on.

I read the same shit that everyone else has over the years about fructose and fruits. I still don't believe something until I try it for myself. After working myself over pretty good with an all fruit approach about 5 years ago, I saw first hand that not only did it work for dropping bodyfat but it worked very well.

Now, it is a little more complicated than just changing all of your carbs over to fruit. I won't go into which fruits and what other carbs are in the diet, too, but I will say that to regard something as fact, simply because it was written somewhere by someone who is supposed to be an expert, doesn't mean that it works or that they are the last word. NEVER take someone's word without first trying it out for yourself. That goes for my "word", too.

If I am not mistaken isn't fructose broken down very slowly? Perhaps this could be why it isn't stored as fat (especially since the insulin response would be slow and gradual).

I eat a fair amount of fruit and veggies. I know alot of people that eat these foods as the primary source of food quantity in their diet and none of them are overweight.

Seems like in my case anyway, the only time I put on BF is from eating starches ....

I am not big on carbs in a pre-workout meal under most situations, while cutting.

I will leave it at that.
