I won't lie - I am a big pussy. I HATE to train biceps. I have hated to train them for years. Why? Because they HURT. lol Give me squats all day long, give me deads, bent rows and other exercises that make me feel like passing out but leave the burn of the biceps to someone with a stronger will than I. Now, I have always tolerated it and my bis, luckily, have never really lagged. I don't have huge arms but they aren't a weak point, either.
So... in the last couple months of starting a different type of training - I am not sure that you have heard of it but it starts with "DC", I have had a difficult time with getting my workouts timed to be finished in my alotted time to get my boy out of the daycare so I have cut bis quite a few times. Yes, it could also be that I cut them because I hate them. *shrug*
Anyway, here is my situation. I had not trained bis but 1 set in 4 weeks. I have the log book to prove it. So, before training them on Friday, I had gone 3 full weeks of no bi work at all. Back work was pretty much the only stress that they were seeing (of significance, anyway).
Here is the kicker, ready? I grabbed a pair of dumbells that I have not curled ONE time in my 20 years of training. In short, I PRd dumbell curls and hadn't trained them in a month. It was beautiful.
Now, what I need is someone to explain to me why I should not continue to train bis every other week at LEAST instead of weekly. I have considered this for years but hadn't done it yet. My arms are not my focus right now as my legs are not, either. Of course, they can always get bigger but my priority over the next year is chest, delts and back - in that order. I am considering going with back and chest and shoulders twice a week and arms and legs only once a week but after this recent arm situation, I have considered dropping bis to at least every other week.
Oh, and believe me, my bis weren't overtrained coming into this last month.
