I do some shit that would make alot of guys cringe - not because it is gross or wrong but rather because it would seem like a waste of time to most. Thing is, I don't accept things that I read or hear that say that this works or that doesn't work when it comes to nutrition, training, etc.. I have to apply it to myself and make my own decision. Why? LOL Because more often that not, the information is inaccurate and assumption or both.
Here is one of my all time favorites:
You can't lose bodyfat while having fruit in your diet.
That is laughable. In theory, it isn't supposed to work. In REALITY, I have dieted on fruits as my ONLY carb source and gotten ripped to hell with more energy than I have ever experienced. I have had more clients than I care to count that have successfully used fruit as their carb source and lost large amounts of weight. This is only one example out of many, many others.
Most guys who have been around the boards for awhile know that I have always professed to be a "low dose kinda guy". Notice that you haven't heard me say this too much this last year - if at all. I decided last year that I would take last year's offseason and precontest and basically go balls out on dosing and see what the difference would be in the end. I won't get into my exact dosages but I will say that I more than doubled my offseason dosages and was probably 4 times over for my precontest dosages after tallying up all of the extra shit that I put in this year.
Without dragging this out for another 3 pages leading up to some anti-climactic answer, I will simply say that not only was there no obvious added benefit from the extra gear but that I am currently on only 1/5th of the gear I was last year in the offseason and I am growing so fast that it is insane. I am putting up numbers that I have never put up before and I am on 1/5th the gear. I want to be clear here and tell you that there was NO added benefit from the added gear - none, notta, nothing. How depressing is that? Yes, my condition for my show was better but that is because I threw out the numbers and decided to come in dialed instead of even thinking about weight. The gear had nothing to do with the better condition.
I was pretty shocked that I didn't have this huge size surge last year from all the gear. LOL How sad is that? I was buying into the "take more gear" stance and was disappointed when it didn't pan out. I knew better but I was still holding out hope. It just didn't happen.
I want to encourage you that when the gains seem to be slowing that you take a long hard look at your training, nutrition and recovery before you even consider throwing in more gear. I wasted alot of money last year with my little experiment and I potentially put myself in jeopardy to a greater degree. However, I am glad that I was able to do this so that I could see what, if any, impact the added gear would have on my physique. I guess what money I wasted last year I will certainly be saving this year.
Be smart and don't take what you hear as gospel. Experiment. Toy with things. Just because someone says it is so, doesn't mean SHIT.
