  • Intensity Techniques

We talked last week or so about being intense in the gym etc. Well I just saw on NFL Total Access a very silly display. You may disagree and that's fine. John Henderson is a DT for the Jags. He was getting slapped in the face in the locker why what appeared to be an equipment manager. First, that's just stupid. You have a whole stinking game to play. Second, you wanna be a bad ass? Get another DT to slap your face you bad ass you! Finally, if you need that slap in the face to get up for a game...it's no wonder the Jags lost so many games last year.

Intensity should be like a light switch. YOU TURN IT ON AND OFF IN YOUR MIND! If you need someone else or some stimuli...maybe just maybe you are another John Henderson.

I think its a bit absurd to do something as this, but I just seem to get very intense with my thought on how that heavier weight is gonna move and move now, perfect form and I will grow from this one set, I am able to almost block out everything, my training partner, radio, gym noise, just about all and tuinnel vision kicks in, that is my intensity and if I can't do it, I go home or don't go into the gym at all...

Last night wasn't a great set squatting but I did hit 405x18 and truthfully I don't remember much until I realized my pants were falling down. Don't ask.

TUNNEL VISION is an excellent description.

F, Nice set, when I was Squating a few months back and was doing my 20 repper on the Smythe with 4 plates per side, when I got done with my set and was lying on the floor trying to catch my breath I thought my sweat on my head was a bit strange, got up looked in the mirror I had a bloody nose and I was wiping it all over my face, man that was a great set...

20 reppers like that!!! THATS AWESOME! Dude! Yes! That is what happened when I tore my back with 855. I got the reps with blood gushing out! I felt awesome for about 2 minutes. Then I could barely move. It was cool at the time!

i kno for myself, i can up the animalistic intensity on my own to quite a scary level, but when getting ready for a maximal lift, we powerlifters use ammonia, and i sometimes get screamed at or smacked, but i have a man of equal size doin it, lol
as for football, i always smack heads with other lineman, never do i ask a QB to pump me up, lol

I liked in Cost of Redemption...when Brian slapped the hell outta Ronnie's back right before his set of 800lb squats....lol

I had to learn to do alot of my training alone. I think that is why I got so good at squatting...no fear. I just focus and go. Getting animated took away from my focus on my technique. But you can be sure my sessions had about 200 mg of caffeine running through my veins.

When I first started pl'ing in high school a watched my coach dislocate this guys smacking him before he deadlifted. I made it clear that I was juuust fine without that love taps.

And I do have a long collection of Hatebreed, Slipknot and Zach Wylde.

I guess differnt things get people going. As for the football player, I can understand him getting slapped.....but not by the equimpent boy. lol.

When I played in College us defensive guys butt heads twice before we hit the field...that and the smell of the grass was my switch. For others it was certain rituals.....just what ever it takes for you to get up for battle I guess.
