  • Pain after deadlifts?

I have been getting a sharp pain in my left acetabulum ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetabulum ) after deadlifts that last for days (only when going for heavy singles).

Why is this occurring? And why is it only on my left side? My form is good, I think.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Don't no why I posted this in the journal forum. Could a mod please move it.

Does the sharp pain increase when you move your leg?

I think I had something similar. Is the pain triggered when you externally rotate your hip?

It only hurts when I move (walk) after the pull.

No. I only feel pain after I drop the weight on the last pull. It will last for a few days.

I was up at 4 today for cardio and that was a struggle. But I thought of the alarm clock thread from the other day, and forced myself out of bed. lol

Is it possible your hips are rotated either at the start or during the movement, and so your overloading one side over the other?

I'd guess hips are too low or the bar is too far from your shins.

It doesn't feel like they are, but could be quite possible. I feel balanced during the entire movement. But I do notice that I over exaggerate the pull once it is above my knee. Something that Adam noticed when I posted a video on the dead lift sticky.

                      Hey Man,

How long have you been doing the deadlifts for?

There have been times in my 'lifting career' that I have had to take long breaks from deadlifts.

Often when resuming deadlift training ... it can take several weeks to several months (yes, months) to be completely conditioned properly so that you do your deads like a well oiled machine.

Once after a long lay off ... I spent about 3 months with terrible low back pain for days on end after a deadlift session. It was terribly frustrating but I knew it was lack of conditioning.

Sure enough after I kept pounding and kept pounding I broke thru the conditioning barrier.

All I am suggesting is that it may be a simple case of 'growing pains'.
I train Dogg Crapp. When not training DC ... sometimes I train arms 3x to 5x per week. Sometimes I train 'modified dogg crapp' which includes an 'arms only' day.

Went to the Doctors today because the pain is not going away. X-rays were taken and I was referred to a Physical Medicine/Rehab specialist (of course the next available appointment is not until the 4th of next month).

My G.P.'s concern is that it may be arthritis, and I was told to stop lifting until I see the specialist (That's 4 weeks). :frusty:

And the wife threatened to cancel ye 'ol gym membership if I don't give it a rest.

                          Hope you get better lopez.

I am in a similar position right now with SI joint paint from deadlifts. When I took a break I still worked out everything else just stayed away from squats and deads.

Sucks man. I am limping like a cripple right now. Just when I thought I was gaining, this happens. Hope all goes well for you. I'll follow along on your thread.

Something tells me that you'd start squatting every day. Other countries have this mindset. America does not.
