The science is there (there's links/studies on Dats forums.) People have different goals. In the end all we can do is try our best to make the most out of our lives.

I'd much rather eat more, enjoy the time I have, and live shorter.

Seems like for us "westerners" there is a very strong correlation between eating lots of food and enjoyment of life.

I wish I didn't feel the same way as you Sammich, especially the more I ponder the subject, but I do. I would much rather eat more, enjoy life, and die whenever I happen to die (could be in a couple minutes or so, who knows? Shit, I'm off to BK for a whopper while I still have the chance!).

The more insidious thing to us Westerners is that we associate "live longer" with "having a better life". Have you seen how damn pathetic and miserable people get when they get old? Yes there are exceptions, but for the most part people in their 70s, 80s, and 90s are just decrepit and miserable. I'd rather have a fulfilling, worthwhile life and go out with some life still in me and knowing that I DID things than gradually fade away in a sad, slow decline.

I remember reading about lower calorie diets promoting longevity. I think I remember something similar with fasting. It has been suggested, although, I'm not sure if there is any research to back it up, that an alternate day fasting diet such as the Up Day/Down Day diet that I used for my last two shows may offer similar benefits to a low calorie diet. If there is truth to this, and your goal is longevity and physique enhancement this type of diet might be for you.

They cover this style of dieting in the documentary. It gave the host the same changes (positive) in bloodwork as a very low calorie diet. He alternated between 500cal days (in one meal), and normal feeding days. He also ended the show on a 5 on 2 off diet where he ate normally for 5 days then fasted for two. Same type of results.

Apparently high insulin growth factor is responsible for our shortened life because our body is in a constant "go mode" and doesn't get time to repair itself. A solution to this problem is calorie restriction or\and various forms of fasting.

I'm with Sammich....I would much rather eat how I want, rather than try to "get used to" being hungry. I'm hungry all the time, so fasting just wouldn't work for me. Plus I do an 8 hour fast when I sleep anyway.....

Personal I'm more inclined to leangains or warrior like intermittent fast. The whole day fasting is not quite my speed
