I really like Evan and Branch so I'm being a homer saying I hope one of them wins it. I have seen Wolf in person and for some reason just am not a huge fan. But I admittedly have far from a judges eye.

I was expecting Branch's torn right quad to look worse...

Wolf wins from just those shots. I am a big Evan fan as well and think he looks good. Also glad Ben made the first call out.

I agree. Branch just ain't appealing. I can see him beat guys with better shape and proportion when he is just much bigger and harder but to me bodybuilding should still be somewhat about how appealing a physique a guy has.

Branch looks hard and grainy as usual, but IMO his right quad is significantly smaller than his left.
Wolf looks pretty good too, he's really brought his back up big time.
I think Evan has the best overall of size shape and condition.
Also super impresses with Bpak. He could sneak into the top 3 I think, maybe even win it.

Evan is to soft, between branch and Wolf, Ben is right up there to for top 4 IMO Webcast was not very good quality though.

Adams calf comment reminds me of a problem I have... Why don't calfs matter anymore? If you don't have any...the judges just don't care. I could see if you blow everyone away but if its close at all....how can someone missing a body part beat guys that are complete? No one wins with no quads, no one wins with no pecs, etc... Why can someone with zero calf development beat guys that are complete?

IMO it's pretty simple...calves are really only showcased in 2 shots, rear lat, and rear double. Most of the time, you can much clearly rank competitors with these shots...the stand out bodyparts are the back musculature (obviously) and hamstrings. If 2 competitors had very similar backs and hamstrings, then judges would turn to the calves to better rank them, but it never really comes down to that.

I'm reminded of the whole Dorian Yates/torn bicep debacle. People were complaining how a guy with a torn bicep who looks lopsided can win the Olympia. Well if you think about it, his tear can only be seen in one shot, the front double. Let's assume he was placed dead last with this shot, but that is still only one shot...he dominates or places high on the other shots and has enough points (or however they score it) to get another victory.

Also, I theorize that our eyes are drawn to the middle and then scan to the peripherals, not peripherals to the center. In front shots a guy with good abs would get more looks than a guy with less-developed abs (I think Dante touched on this once before). So, holding that theory, When you look at a competitor you are drawn to his middle (pecs/back/abs/quads/hamstrings/biceps/triceps...and not so much his peripherals which are the forearms and calves).

I think its just accepted cause its such a genetic flaw...as in 'he can't do anything about it so we can't hold it against him'... I just think that's wrong. JMO.
