This thread is kinda an off shoot of a different thread...got me wondering who else records, why and what has been the result?
On myself....
I record myself often, don't post them all but post a bunch on YouTube. Do I do it for ego? Probably sometimes in the ones I post but I record them mostly to check form. I have been both pleased and dissapointed by the results...examples would be a video I did when I was using 455 for bent rows....I cut the set short after 2 reps cause I thought my form was off...after watching it I was surprised by my form, it was far better than I expected. Another time I was doing hammer or Pinwheel curls and thought the set was good...watched the video and could not believe the amount of swing I was using.
When I first started recording any videos I was always more aware of my form, though I have been somewhat of a form nut for a LONG time, and I believe that has lead to better habits, more controlled rep speed, better posture, etc...
When I am in the gym I see people train and I just wanna tape them and then ask them "bro so you realise THIS is how you were doing your set?"... I never do that but OMT do I want to.
When I work with people I record them often, I would never post a video or even save one without the persons permission, and show them the vids....seeing where their form or rep speed may be off is so helpful...much more so than either explaining or.demonstrating.
So.... Who records either themselves or their clients and how helpful have you found it? Do you post the vids up on YouTube or do you just keep them private?
BTW
Biggest reason for the thread is to encourage the average gym rat to record themselves, to not be embarrassed when they record themselves....to use the recordings to better their training. To honestly review what you see ....example is say you think you improved a lot in your squats.... You taped it when you got 315 for 10 and just taped yourself doing 365 for 9 but you watch the tape and you are going 3-4 inches shorter in depth, your negative rep speed is faster, etc... Watch it and be honest and ask yourself DID you REALLY get stronger? You don't have to be "showing off" to record yourself, you don't have to be moving huge wts to record yourself...you just have to have a desire to train safely and effectively. I admit that I say this as someone that DOES believe there is correct and incorrect form. I believe there IS a eight and a wrong way to do an ex.
So anyway again...
Who? why? and results?
Peace
