  • Thoughts on taking in most protein from shakes? (and diet)

I know solid meals are better, but is it ok to take in most protein from shakes.

I was thinking of consuming 5 - 75g protein shakes per day along with 3 solid meals. Something like this:

    Meal 1
    Protein Shake 75g Protein + 12oz 1% or Skim milk (20g Pro, 28g Carb, 6g Fat) + 2tbsp Olive Oil (28g Fat)
    1c Oatmeal (4g Pro, 33g Carb, 2g Fat)
    Meal 2
    Protein Shake 75g Pro + water (75g Pro) + 2tbsp Olive Oil (28g Fat)
    Meal 3
    8oz Lean Meat (70g Pro, 0g Carb, 8g Fat)
    1c Brown/Wild Rice (5g Pro, 45g Carb, 2g Fat)
2 Slices Wheat Bread (5g Pro, 25g Carb, 2g Fat)
    Meal 4
    Protein Shake 75g + water (75g Pro)
    Meal 5 (PWO)
    Protein Shake 75g + juice (75g Pro, 50g Carbs)
    Meal 6 (Carb-Cutoff After meal)
    8oz Lean Meat (70g Pro, 0g, 8g Fat)
    1c Veggies (5g Pro, 23g Carb, .5g Fat)
    Meal 7
    75g Protein Shake + Water (75g Pro)

    Totals: 554g Protein 205g Carbs 84.5g Fat
Total Calories: 2216 Protein 820 Carbs 760.5 Fat 3796.5 Total
    % Of Total 58% Pro 22% Carb 20% Fat

    Not enough carbs?
    Not Enough Fat?
    Too much Protein?

What do you guys think? I don't think there's enough fat...so I might add in some more (2tbsp) olive oil in there with one of the shakes.

BTW My goal is a very lean bulk.

Edit: oops, somehow I screwed up my fat calculation...its actually much higher.

Solid meal's are a much better choise, although if you cant handle that musch protein without shakes, or it being non-convenient to eat whole foods, then i would think it's fine.

You need way more fat's than that, add some flax oil and/or more olive oil. Since it's a lean bulk then i would think that amount of carbs are ok.

Other than that thing's look great. Good luck bro!

it doesnt matter so much to me where my protien comes from, ass long as it goes down. I am lucky enough to be self employed and cook before work and pack 2 huge meals--also i always have my morning meal liquid and post workout shake---i am an eater though--try a double whopper no mayo and a chicken whopper no mayo when in a hurry--$7.33 and all the extra ketchup and pickles are free!!
im not hardcore, im not cool, pretending any different would be acting the fool--- ill leave that to those who are good at it

I have tried and tried and tried to force myself to eat all of my prtein everyday from lean beef , chicken, and fidh and I just cannot do it. For whatever reason my body just won't let me eat that much so I have no choice but to get the majority of my protein from shakes. I would rather get ti from solid food but shakes are just easier on the old stomach.

JnJ23 - why more fat than 83g ish - thats a whole bunch of fat.
I get around 30g of fat including supplemental efas - which account for 15 of that, 5 of those are cod liver oil caps.

I am interested in the reasoning behind your recommendation

fat helps with the hormone level. It fat very little if any insulin effect and it adds a lot of cals. which are needed to grow.

Well, I think he was saying that my original estimate was extremely low...I added up wrong and only put 35g of fat...It's really 83 or so which isn't extremely low.

In my opinion, you would be far better off eating more solid food.

You can train yourself to do this just as you train your body in the gym.

Five solid meals with three shakes would be a much better scenario if you can manage it.

Get tough on yourself and just do it!
